Beautiful picture. Will the reserve player gets a chance to play in the team?

Our first match against hosts Thailand already started and we lost the first rubber.
India vs. Thailand
[S1] Prerna Bhambri (IND,399) l. Bunyawi Thanchaiwat (THA,629) 26 57
Ankita will be up next against Thai no. 1 Luksika Kumkhum who is a top 150 player. So, tough one.

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
Currently, Ankita seems to be putting up a pretty good fight against Thai no.1 . She was down 1-3 in the first set but has won 3 straight games to lead 4-3 on serve.
And she breaks Kumkhum again to lead 5-3 and will serve for the first set.
But, gets broken . Kumkhum serving at 4-5.
Kumhkhum holds and breaks Ankita to lead 6-5 and will serve for the set. 3 straight games for her now.
But, Ankita breaks to take this set to a tie breaker.
Ankita loses the tie break 5-7 to lose the first set.

And she loses the second set too and with that we lose the first match.

[S2] Ankita Raina (IND,307) l. Luksika Kumkhum (THA,149) 67(5) 36
Not a bad match by Ankita. Prerna should have done better.

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
These are pools with team details -
POOL A
Japan - Nao Hibino, Kurumi Nara, Eri Hozumi, Shuko Aoyama
Thailand - Luksika Kumkhum, Peangtarn Plipuech, Kamonwan Buayam, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat
Uzbekistan - Nigina Abduraimova, Akgul Amanmuradova, Sabina Sharipova, Arina Folts
India - Ankita Raina, Prerna Bhambri, Prarthana Thombare, Sania Mirza
POOL B
Kazakhstan - Zarina Diyas, Yaroslava Shvedova, Yulia Putintseva, Galina Voskoboeva
China, P.R - Saisai Zheng, Qiang Wang, Yafan Wang, Chen Liang
Korea Rep. - Su Jeong Jang, Na-Lae Han, So-Ra Lee, Ji Hee Choi
Chinese Taipei - Su-Wei Hsieh, Kai-Chen Chang, Yung-Jan Chan, Hao-Ching Chan
Our basic focus this time should be on staying on this group and not relegated to group II as has been happening on last few occasions when we moved to group 1.
Apart from our loss, today in our group Uzbekistan with 2 players ranked 217 and 239 won matches against Japanese top 100 players to create a big upset.
I was hoping that we can get a win against Uzbeks and avoid to play relegation play off. But, that equation has changed now with that Uzbek win.
We play Japan in a very tough match tomorrow.

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
Sania mentioned in one of her very recent interviews that she still practises Singles in practice, but can't do it one day after the other, as her body, especially the wrist, needs time to recover. So I guess, she could play one of the singles here, as there are just two days left. She would still be playing singles at a very decent level, I guess!

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
We definitely need Sania to play singles, until Karman or Pranjala is ready to do the job. Ankita can take one singles slot, but she should be the #2 singles player. The trouble is that Ankita will probably still have to play #1 singles because Sania doesn't have a singles ranking

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
Today, Prarthana replaced Prerna as second singles player against Japan. But, result is not different.
India vs. Japan
[S1] Prarthna Thombre (IND,523) l. Eri Hosumi (JPN,206) 26 16
Next up Ankita against 56th ranked Nao Hibino. Not much hope there.

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
I don't think so. Else, Karman would have been picked for second singles.
Anyway, Ankita has just won the first set against the Japanese top 60 player Hibino. She went up a break early and was serving for the set at 5-3. She faced 2 breakpoints at 15-40 but saved both and won next 2 points to take the set 6-3.
Go Ankita.

Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
Ankita leading 3-1 with a break in second set.
And goes a double break up to lead 4-1.
Ankita has 2 match points at 5-1, 15-40, Hibino saves one, saved both to bring it to deuce, ad-out- third match point, back to deuce, ad-out - fourth match point, saved again back to deuce, ad-in, deuce, ad-out- fifth match point and this time she takes it to complete a fabulous win.
[S2] Ankita Raina (IND,307) d. Nao Hibino (JPN,56) 63 61
Biggest win of her career and coming in a crunch match.
That level us 1-1 against top seeds Japan.

Sania Mirza and Prarthana Thombre starting their doubles match against Eri Hozumi and Shuko Aoyama now. Can Sania shepherd Prarthana to get us an upset win ?
