I have not seen him do that. He does shoot in other event such as centre fire and standard pistol which are not Olympic events. Only way he can get in is by exchange of quota. But, I doubt that will happen unless he shows major upward change in form in the world cups this year. Else, we have Gurpreet Singh in 25M rapid fire event. Today, in qualifying he shot the best score among all shooters but was only shooting for MQS and thus, did not enter the finals.

11th Quota for us, Ayonika Paul won a silver in the 10m Air Rifle Women event to secure our 2nd quota for this event (Apurvi Chandela already has one)...

Pooja Ghatkar finised with a bronze medal, Iranian won the gold beating Ayonika in a SO...

With this we have matched our London 2012 quota numbers but with few more days to go I hope we get this close to 15...

Also not to forget that Omkar Singh finished 4th in final of 50 m Pistol where we already has 2 Quota Places .It will be interesting to see who will play in these quota places.1 will surely be Jitu Rai.Second would be between Omkar and Nanjappa.Today Nanjappa was way behind to even make the final.

Yes, the competition would be stiff in some of the events between those who earned the quota and others. Apart from pistol events which you mentioned, it could also be still in womens 10M air rifle where Pooja Ghatkar was only slightly behind Ayonika and will compete for a spot in the final team. Also in mens trap, Manavjeet can get back into contention with good performances in world cups.

It will be interesting.

Young Akhil missed out on a quota in 10m Air Rifle, he finished 4th and lost out to the Iranian in crucial moments... While still a good performance thou this quota would have helped to get someone like Manavjit or Vijay to the Olympics given that our rifle team will mostly be Abhinav, Gagan and Chain...

On a side note, Iran is really shaping up well and starting to beat us in shooting also...

Akhil Sheoran is only 20 year old. So, encouraging performance for him personally. As you said, he might still have not gone to Rio, but we could have used the quota for someone else.

Chain Singh and Gagan Narang posted scores in MQS which would have given them top 2 places in the qualifying today.

Hope to get some good news in double trap later today.

Mohd. Asab and Ankur Mittal are in 1st and 2nd position after 4 of the 5 qualifying rounds.

Disaster, none of them gets the quota...Asab gets a bronze but that's hardly important..

Geez the morning miss on the quota now became all the more important...

Do ISSF have invitation places also for Olympics ?

I think invitation places are only for those countries who have not got any quotas.

Not getting any quota for double trap is indeed a disappointment. Asab has been so good in almost all the events but keeps missing narrowly all the time. I though he will at least do it here at home. Hard luck.

Another disappointing day...Eligabeth Koshy came close to the quota but faltered in crucial moment to finish 4th with 3 places on offer...

Nothing else to write about with the likes of Lajja, Anjum ,Annu Raj, Rani, Anisha not even making it to the final....

London 2012 we had quota in 25m pistol women when these very shooters were young but have not taken the extra step in last few years... We seems to be one of the nations who has reasonable depth but not the ones who can consistently win us medals in big events...

As of now it's very likely our hopes rests on Abhinav , Gagan, Jitu to get us a medal in the men's categpry...I wish to add Gurpreet to the list but he keeps faltering in the finals after having great scores in qualification..

In the women's Apurvi and Heena are best bet come Rio...

Tomorrow I hope Omkar gets a quota in men 10m pistol and someone comes with surprsing performance in skeet.

Finally we add to our quota , Sanjeev Rajput won our 12th Rio ticket today by finishing 4th in 50M 3Position rifle event, Chain Singh already has a quota in this event....so officially we can say we have made progress from London 2012 although with so many narrow misses it could have easily been 16-17...

This quota is important as it might give a chance to Manavjit/Asab/Vijay depending upon their and Sanjeev's on form coz in Mens Rifle most likely we will see

10M - Abhinav, Gagan
50M - Gagain, Chain
50M 3P - Gagain, Chain

That is the last quota won by us and at 12, we are just 1 ahead of the London number of 11. This is a disappointment as we got only 4 quotas in Delhi. I was expecting about 6-7. 3 of them (Asab, Koshy and Akhil ) finished 1 place out from getting a quota place which made the difference.

So, these are the final quota place winners for us.

Mens rifle -

10M - Abhinav Bindra
50M rifle 3 position - Chain Singh , Sanjeev Rajput
Prone- Gagan Narang

Gagan shoots in all 3 events and Chain, Sanjeev shoot in 3 position/prone. So, we will have 2 shooters in all 3 events ( even if we exchange 1 of the quotas gained in 3 position).

Mens pistol-

10M pistol - Gurpreet Singh
50M pistol - Jitu Rai, Prakash Nanjappa

Gurpreet also shoots in 25M rapid fire pistol. So, he will double up for that and Jitu will shoot in both 10m and 50M. We are missing Vijay Kumar here as if he had qualified, we would have had full team like mens rifle.

Mens shotgun-

Trap- Kynan Chenai
Skeet - Mairaj Ahmad Khan

Badly missed both Manvajeet in trap and Asab in double trap. Both are potential medal winners when they hit good form.

Womens Rifle-

10M - Apurvi Chandela, Ayonika Paul

Missed Koshy/Lajja Goswami in 3 positions event.

Womens pistol -

10M - Heena Siddhu

She can also shoot in 25M where we are missing Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayed.

None in womens shotgun but really no one is good enough to compete at world level.

So, 4-5 more qualifying would have really made our team complete. But, from the medal winning potentials the only notable omissions are Manavjeet Sandhu in trap, Mohd. Asab in double trap and Vijay Kumar in rapid fire pistol.

We can still exchange 1 quota. I think we should use the option and exchange 1 of the quotas gained by Rajput or Mairaj Khan and get in Asab or Vijay Kumar. Manavjeet and Kynan will fight out for the 1 spot in trap earned by Kynan.

Unless Mairaj is awfully out of form he should be the one going to the Rio, its been a long wait for us in skeet and finally things have started to improve so its important we avoid any fiasco..in fact today pressure got to young Angad else he would have got us second quota in skeet..he was well placed after first 3 series but a 45/50 costed him a place in the final by 1 shot..

As for Sanjeev, while he got us the quota today his form in 2015 and even today suggests he will pose no serious challenge , given that Chain Singh, Gagan are in much better form,it can all change thou in next few months..

Another good performance today was by young Swapnil in 3P although it came in MQS so was not considered.. Any one know why Imran did not get selected for 10m rifle ? He won the recent nationals in Jaipur only last month IIRC...
