Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
But he loses the second game 12-21 as JOJ comes back strong and Srikanth makes more mistakes in that game.
Third game is crucial as a win will help Srikanth to avoid Chen Long in the SF while a win for JOJ would help him qualify.

Srikanth loses the third game 14-21 and I think both qualify for SF.
Not sure who is the group winner though.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
If not for those lost 6 points from 11-20 in the first game, Srikanth would have had the momentum going into the second game...
And if he hadn't lose those 6 points and closed out the first game 21-11, he would have topped the group by a solitary point...
But no matter now.... he qualifies for the SF and hopefully wins the SF....

Yes both qualify with the Den winning the group, however it doesn't matter as the SF line up will be decided by another draw to be held later today..

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
It does matter. Even thought SF match-ups will be decided by another draw, both the group winner will be put in separate half while making that draw. So, group winners here ( Chen Long and JOJ) will not meet each other in the SF. Srikanth will meet either of them in the SF. So, it could be a rematch against JOJ or match against no.1 Chen Long. A much tougher choice than it would have been had he been group winner. Then, it would been a match either against JOJ, Momota or Vittinghus.
Saina will play either Korean Ji Hyun Sung or Taiwanse Tzu Ying Tai.
It such a bad tournament for Chinese women here as their world no. 1 Li Xurei pulled out due to injury while no.2 and 3 lost all their matches. It must after a long time that there is no Chinese in the SF of a major tournament.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
SF draws have been made.......
[SF] K. Srikanth (IND,6) v. CHEN Long (CHN,2) - 5th match
Srikanth lost his two matches against Chen Long earlier, the latest being a 3-game loss in the HK open last month.....
Hopefully he'll turn the tables this time around and register his first win against the Chinese....
[SF] Saina NEHWAL (IND,4) v. TAI Tzu Ying (TPE,9) - 1st match
Saina lost to Ying in last months HK Open as well....
She lost the last 3 encounters against Ying... Better luck tomorrow....
[SF] K. Srikanth (IND,6) v. CHEN Long (CHN,2) - 5th match

This new rule is probably kept to avoid what happened in London olympics Womens doubles. There after ensuring qualification for knockout stages, both sides were trying to lose the last match to get a favourable draw and ultimately led to suspending 4 doubles teams.depleter wrote:The rules are interesting this time...Even if Srikanth finishes 2nd this time..it is not guaranteed that he will face Chen Long who finished first in the other group...There will be a draw after today's play which will decide which first will play which second..(though the new rule is completely flawed)

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
But it doesn't change anything though. What happened in London was as one China team lost and came second in their group, the second China team so as to not face the other China team before finals tried to loose their match and come second. It's the same here too...if one looses and comes second, then the other team can loose and come second too and both second teams won't face each other.srini wrote:This new rule is probably kept to avoid what happened in London olympics Womens doubles.

Just for the record, India's best performance ever at Super series Finals comes to an end with both Saina, Srikanth losing in Semifinal. While Saina lost 21-11,13- 21, 9-21 to Tai Srikanth lost to Chen Long 18-21, 9-21.

[SF] Saina NEHWAL (IND,4) l. TAI Tzu Ying (TPE,9) 21-11 13-21 9-21
[SF] K. Srikanth (IND,6) l. CHEN Long (CHN,2) 18-21 9-21
It was a painful 2nd half of the match for Srikanth after he head 18-15 in the first game... He could win only 9 of the last 36 points making many many errors.....
However, Srikanth cracks the Top-5 after this week's results... an Indian in Top-5 after a looooooong time I guess...
Hopefully he will stabilize himself as a regular in the Top-5 next year......

An Indian male in the top-5 after a long long time. Saina has been in top 5 for quite some now.prashanthm wrote: However, Srikanth cracks the Top-5 after this week's results... an Indian in Top-5 after a looooooong time I guess...
It was pretty good tournament for Srikanth here and his losses were only against much more experienced players.
Disappointed that Saina could not continue her good run.
The players who beat the Indians in the SF- Chen Long and Tai Tzu Ying went on to win the title winning the finals in straight games.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Saina and Srikanth have again qualified for this year's super series finals in Dubai.
This is the draw -
Mens singles
Group A
CHEN Long (CHN,1)
Jan O JORGENSEN (DEN,2)
TIAN Houwei (CHN,8)
HU Yun (HKG,13)
Group B
Kento MOMOTA (JPN,5)
Viktor AXELSEN (DEN,6)
CHOU Tien Chen (TPE,7)
K. Srikanth (IND,9)
Srikanth has nothing much to lose really after his poor form this year and him being the lowest ranked player in his group. He can go all out in his attacking game and try to create upsets.
