Roland Garros (French Open) 2014 - Clay
Only Somdev will be in the Men's Singles main draw...
Yuki has withdrawn from the Qualifying and none of the other players seem to have any chance of getting into the Qualifiers... Saketh would have had an outside chance, but he withdrew as well...
On the doubles side only Bopanna, with Aisam, will have entry into the Men's Doubles Main draw...
Lee out with personal issues and possibly because Radek isn't at the FO...
Mahesh not playing here, but will end his career at the Big W...
Divij partnering Rameez Junaid is 4 out of the Main draw... Divij's AO 2014 partner Lu is partnering Benjamin Becker...
Purav partnering Somdev is 10 out of the Main draw...
Michael Venus who partnered Yuki in AO 2014 to make his GS debut is pairing up with Ken Skupski and is in the Main draw...
Sania/Cara would be one of the Top-5 seeds in Women's doubles draw...
It'll be interesting to see whom Rohan & Sania will be partnering in the Mixed Doubles...
On the Juniors,
Sumit is way off the Qualifying cut-off...
Ojasvinee is Alt #9 for Qualifying, while Pranjala has withdrawn...

Hello all, after a gap of 2 years I am posting (in fact logging in) ....
All the Best Somdev
Will Nishikori go all the way to win? I am very impressed with his recent play.

Welcome back. I noticed the difference in your avatar, which I believe is a picture of your son. I remember his earlier (infant) image was one with a tilak on his forehead.

Yes, decent draw for Somdev at least in first round.
[R1] Somdev Devvarman (IND,95) vs. Alexander Nedovyesov (KAZ,99)
Somdev beat Nedovyesov in Delhi challenger final in February. Since that match, Nedovyesov has won only 1 out of 8 matches he has played. This is at the same time when Somdev himself is struggling to find his form but he could not have got a better draw than this. 70 points to defend and hope he can at least win a round here to recover some of them because beyond first round draw is too tough for him.

As Sameer suggests, the draw after round 1 is very difficult, because Somdev would meet Tomas Berdych [6]. Berdych is one of those players that has both weapons & consistency, and I don't see Somdev taking a set off him. But, let's hope he can win R1.

Berdych faces a qualifier in the first round. We can hope that he draws Kokkinakis and loses to him. And then Somdev can try to beat Kokkinakis. Highly optimistic.

If Berdych loses to *any* qualifier in the first round, I will buy you a beer if I ever meet you. That's almost a post-PKB level of optimism.vatsal323 wrote:Berdych faces a qualifier in the first round. We can hope that he draws Kokkinakis and loses to him.
