Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Montreal Jr - G2 - Hard
Tough close loss for Sumit/Naoki in the STB after winning the first set comfortably.......
So, no revenge for Sumit and he stays just outside the top-100, but in all probability he is now the top Indian Jr......
[SF] (3) Sumit NAGAL (IND) / Naoki NAKAGAWA (JPN) l. Rogelio SILLER (MEX) / Thomas Adriano TENREIRO (VEN) 2-6 6-3 [10-4]
Looks as if Sumit has not entered anywhere for the next 2 weeks. for training........

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit is at a career high #73 (combined ranking) as of 01-Jan-2013. This rise is probably more due to points falling off of other boys' kittys......., but career high & top-100 for the first time is good to see...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
I am pretty sure this is because all the 18 year olds of 2012 (i.e., those turned 18 at some point in 2012) are dropped from the 2013 list as they are no longer eligible for the juniors. So, this ranking is somewhat inflated in that it may not include all those will play serious juniors in 2013. The rankings after the first couple of slams will be probably be a pretty good indicia of where Sumit really is.prashanthm wrote:Sumit is at a career high #73 (combined ranking) as of 01-Jan-2013. Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes, this ranking rise is due to 1994 born players falling out of juniors.
It seems as though Sumit has not entered the Asutralian open which is surprising. Sumit is only 15 & so has time on his hand but he should take these opportunities as much he can to play grand slam juniors.arjun2761 wrote:The rankings after the first couple of slams will be probably be a pretty good indicia of where Sumit really is.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
That's surprising! It's not as if he has withdrawn, he has not even entered.....
I wish he was playing at the AO....
Could he be in the middle of a late off-season training stint? Couldn't find any info on the web.......

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
It could be that Sumit does not have the funds to play at the Australian Open.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Does that mean that Globosport is not doing it's job well, as I believe Sumit is managed by that company?

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
I think he trains in USA/ Canada . So, perhaps did not make the long trip to Australia . He was eariler in the entry list for couple of grade 1 events in South America these 2 weeks but has withdrawn from there. Will hopefully play some junior tournaments somewhere soon.prashanthm wrote:That's surprising! It's not as if he has withdrawn, he has not even entered.....

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit is going to be playing his first tournaments of 2013 when he appears first in the grade 2 tournament this week ( starting Jan. 21) in Equador & then another grade 2 in Bolivia next week. Both the tournaments are on red clay. Curious choice of tournaments by Sumit preferring to play here instead of on hard courts in Australia. Not seen too many Indian players ( junior or senior) playing in South America.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
If the plan is to improve his clay court game and if he is concentrating on doing well in French Open Jr this year, it is good...

Sumit is seeded 3rd in Singles and 2nd in Doubles and get byes in both the events, since the size of the draw is 48 & 24 resp. Not sure if that is a good thing after a long off season for Sumit......

[R2] (3) Sumit NAGAL (IND,84) v. Facundo ALVO (ARG,180)

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Very nice to see the youngster's ability to play -- and win matches -- on clay against the locals.
