2 bps on Lee's serve. Saves 1 with an ace. But got broken. Big returns from Mike. 2-4. Lee not making the returns on Lisa's serve. Need to move and hit the FH. And its 2-5 now. Huge crowd support!
Elena serves to stay in the set. Big serving. 40-0. A DF 40-15. 40-30. Holds. 3-5
Mike up 40-0. Beautiful lob from Elena. 40-15. Big FH from Lee. 2nd net cord. 40-30. Lee crosses. 40-40. But the Americans manage to win the 1st set 6-3

Paes serve broken, am afraid thats what worries me getting into Olympics...While Paes is never known to be a big server he is definitely pretty good with his placements and makes sure to rush to the net (his slow pace on serve kinda some how helps it) but he needs a better player at the net to hold on to his serve...I doubt Sania would be any better at net...

Paes' service break was due to not getting some first serves in and also due to some slow reactions by Vesnina to the opponents' lobs & potential volleys...

Agree. Elena much better than Sania w.r.t serve and net play. Sania can still hold with Paes at the net.

well missing first serve can happen many times , and help on net is what I mentioned....My observation was in general ...

Paes' service in trouble agian. Vesnina has been inconsistent at the net so far. Sometimes, she is excellent and sometimes not so much.....

All of a sudden Elena struggling at the net. 40-40. A-40. DF. 40-40. Miss from Lee. 40-A. Good net play from Elena. 40-40. Another error from Elena. But saves the bp. Beautiful lob from Lisa. 2 straight good points from Elena. A-40. Splendid return from Mike. 40-40. DF. Another bp. Breathtaking drop volley from Paes. 40-40. Ves takes a lesson! Another drop volley. AND THEY HOLD.

Mike held to love.
Elena broken. Big returns from Mike. 1-2. Lee needs to make returns on the lady's serve. 1-3. Much better serving from Paes. Holds. 2-3

I was just pointing out the fact that he had missed some first serves in that service game which he usually doesn't, which had put some pressure on his 2nd serves......

Leander just held his serve after some 4 or 5 deuce points and saving 4 bps...

Vesnina's serve under threat now.......
saves 1 bp, but loses her serve...

lol ok...need to make it crystal clear..GOD knows who takes it in what spirits and suddenly it gets personal here way too much for my liking so just staying away from controversy my dear friend nothing else...

btw on that note, i expect better from Paes..he has been quite ordinary today..

Absolutely nothing from lee when it comes to service returns. His backend chip is a no show today.

well his service returns are very bad, he started trying his trademark chip shots but it did not work coz of tall figure of Bryan at the net so he had to go even wide which did not work either...I was mostly disappointed on him not even giving chance on raymonds serve...too many free points unfortunately...

From what I have seen Vesnina is playing better at least today compare to Paes...

Its basically that 1 service game of Lee that made the difference. The scoreline doesn't show the tightness of the match.

Game 6. Easy hold for Mike.
Game 7. Challenge from Mike. Gets it right. Another return winner. 15-15. Great play from Vesnina. 40-30. Holds. 3-4.
Game 8. Normally Paes would move to hit the FH. Nothing today. Another easy hold for Lisa. 3-5

Game 9. Paes serving to stay in the final. Mike continues to return big. 15-15.
FANTASTIC RALLY FROM ELENA AT THE NET
Deuce. A-40. 2nd serve. Miss from Elena. 40-40. Big stretch from her. A-40. No use. Mike comes up with another big return. 40-40. Good serve. A-40.

40-40. 4th ace from Lee. And he holds!

Game 10. Mike serving for it. Paes at last tries to move to hit the FH but overhits. 2 good points from Lee/Ves. 30-30. 40-30.
Splendid return from Elena on 1st serve. Paes crosses. 40-40. Break point! And all of a sudden THEY BREAK! 5-5!

Game 11. Lisa missing a lot. Elena holds! I think they will easily break Lisa now.
