Re: Sikkim lad selected by swiss football academy
There was an article in Indianfootball.com last month about this too - Youngster to train with Grasshoppers Zurich
This Indian Express news item was a bit more informative - Following in Bhutia’s footsteps
It is actually a six months trial thing. The thing does not seem to be a scam. I usually look very very suspiciously at people in India creating news about young kids by organizing these kinds of "foreign people picked him/her" stuff basically to get into the news themselves. The Indian express scribe talked to Uttam Rai himself and has written about things like how he is worried about language problem etc.
While we are at it, check this out about the extreme financal crisis that Grasshoppers have. They have apparently done a terrible job in marketing etc and are about to be relegated, sitting at 8th in the Swiss league (despite their history as the greatest Swiss club)
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2 ... 7100_x.htm
Anyway, good to seee these things happening but 14 is too young to get a sense of where a footballer would get to, later, as far as height and athleticism/stamina are concerned.

"He did pretty well considering it was just his first day. He showed good anticipation, made some precision crosses and was good in the tackle.
"He certainly seems to have some good qualities in him and is a quick learner. We shall monitor him more closely over the next week and see how things go" said Melbourne Heart FC coach John van't Schip when questioned on his first impressions.

Re: Indian duo set for Rangers trial
Indian football’s technical director Robert Bann feels that strikers Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpeklua are not good enough for top European clubs ... The Dutchman rightly said that the fact that Indian strikers went for trials to Glasgow means that they are not good enough for European clubs.
