Sania Mirza Tournaments 2012

Post by rajorshi »

With Sania already practicing for about 2 weeks, this is just the right time to open this thread. She will begin 2012 at Auckland (as part of her preparation for Australian Open). In 2011, the last direct acceptance at Auckland was ranked 90 but the field looks even stronger this year so she will most probably have to qualify unless there are a few withdrawals. From all her interviews its pretty obvious that the Olympics is very much in her mind. She will have to be within 60 to qualify for singles and 10 for doubles. With little to defend at the beginning of the year, I am quite hopeful of her chances! :D And of course wanna see her win a slam once again at AO with Bhupathi or/and Vesnina!!! :goodluck:

Deleted! Guess it happened because I had cancelled the process in between to edit something. Was going to delete this one on noticing the blunder but since you had already posted, it wasn't allowed :p

Hope all this serves as a lucky charm for Sania. She has almost given up on singles!

She is 14 out if i'm not wrong in Auckland..so she will surely have to play the q-draw..
she'll also have to play q-draw in Hobart before the Aussie Open..
Any idea on whether she'll partner Vesnina for the next full season?many top teams including Vikiri and Dulketta have split..so hopefully this can help Sania and Vesnina even more..
Hope to see her win her first match since French Open in singles :-)
:goodluck: Sania!!!

Where did you see the qualifying list? Sania will start the season with Vesnina but only time will tell, if they will continue. Sania said few days ago that she is eager to partner Bhupathi at AO. Considering their records here, I am pretty excited to see them play!

Will Sania's ranking at the entry list be considered if there are a few withdrawals from the main draw at Auckland? And will her current ranking of 104 determine her seeding in the qualifying?

just saw this,...very tough qualifying draw..

News Report

Qualifying to feature 15 players in top 100

December 22, 2011

The action in next month’s ASB Classic kicks off with a qualifying draw featuring 15 players in the world’s top 100.
When the tournament’s full field was announced last month, there was a hint of a strong qualifying line up with only players in the top 67 in the world gaining direct entry to the tournament.

Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru (ranked 66 in the world) heads the qualifying field followed by Italy’s Alberta Brianti (71). A number of regular ASB Classic attendees are also in the field including Alize Cornet (France), Sofia Arvidsson (Sweden) and Aravane Rezai (France).

ASB Classic tournament director Richard Palmer says he was delighted when he saw the qualifying list come through from the Women’s Tennis Association.
“I thought to myself that some tournaments would be happy to have that line up as their main draw. Fans can now look forward to eight days of top quality women’s tennis.”

There are 28 players that have made the qualifying draw and four wildcard entries. Four players from the qualifying rounds will gain entry into the main draw of the ASB Classic starting on 2 January at the ASB Tennis Arena.

Yes. Its 3 rounds. Last year, she lost to Sabine in the final round. This year, she faces a more tough draw. Coco has a big serve. Even if she beats her and makes the final, her 3rd round opponent is likely to be Rezai or Noppawan who play each other in rd 1. Don't think she can beat either of them. Sania did thrash Nopa in the Fed Cup this year but the latter has come a long way winning $75,000 ITF Dubai a month ago.

I agree with you because she is coming off a long break and Coco just had played USTA WC event
Sania needs some matches ...hopefully Coco has a bad day in the office, Because i don't think sania can win this match due to lack of match practise
