@Saniapower, You seem to want to criticize everyone these days (3 in the last post). Are you in some kind of a funk? And what is with the Avatar?

Re: Tara Iyer thread
Surprising that Tara Iyer was able to get into the qualifying draw of a WTA tournament! She is ranked 960 now and hasn't played a tournament in three and a half years. She would have definitely had a chance against Dekmeijere had she been continuously playing on the circuit, but this being her first match in ages, it is going to be very difficult.
Having said that Dekmeijere is in the twilight of her career and she is predominantly a doubles player. She hasn't been performing too well in the singles and this might well be an ideal match for Tara Iyer to get back into the circuit.
PS : I wonder what made Tara Iyer get back into the circuit again, I thought she is done with Tennis. Or may be she was injured all this time!

Re: Tara Iyer thread
Tara must be 21 or something now. Some people said she was working in IMF. I am super excited to have her back! I hope she continues to play. Bdw why didn't Sanaa or Shalini try here. They are in US, right?

Re: Tara Iyer thread
I don't think we can necessarily conclude that Tara Iyer is back. Perhaps she just decided to try her luck at a nearby tournament using an injury-protected ranking. That's the only way she could have a WTA ranking without having played for 3+ years...

Re: Tara Iyer thread
She got a WC but I share your view. But i think she should continue to play. She should give it a try. She is well built for tennis. She has a good effortless service action. She can take the ball early.I saw her play against Pennetta in Kolkata wta. Then she was too young and was not matured enough as a player. Not long ago she played for india in the CWG and AG if i remember correctly.PKBasu wrote:I don't think we can necessarily conclude that Tara Iyer is back. Re: Tara Iyer thread
I agree with saniapower's thoughts. Among the group of Megha, Ankita, Isha, Sanaa, Tara and a few others who emerged several years back with ITF top-50 type junior results, I had always thought that Tara had the most potential but it never got realized.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
Her qualifying match is done. Tara lost 67(4) 26.
I too think it may be a one-off tournament for Tara. If it was a serious comeback, she should have played somewhere at the lower level ITF tournments. There are lots of them being played currently in USA.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
Tara was living (still does?) and was coached right there in a tennis center near College Park, Maryland. So, probably this was a one-time thing. Pretty nice scoreline for at least the first set, considering that she must be very rusty. I too would really like to see her make a comeback and try things once more... You listening, Tara? ... Jay

Re: Tara Iyer thread
I thought she was representing Duke university and was being under the coach there for the last 2-3 years.Tara was living (still does?) and was coached right there in a tennis center near College Park, Maryland.
She lost on the expected lines but the first set score is encouraging.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
I was talking about the time before she went to college. She went to school for a few years there, etc. Jay
