Very nice to see two consummate singles victories. There is no doubt that Sania is playing top-100 tennis consistently for the past 3-4 months, and her low ranking is simply a reflection of her long injury breaks earlier in the year. I am glad she is capitalizing on her good form at the Asiad, and is adding the vital points that will gradually push her back to where she belongs -- at least within the top-100 and (injuries permitting) the top-50 in about half a year.

Good comfortable run to the SF in doubles as well. Nice week in her adopted marital hometown.

Excellent win by Sania. I sort of expected this win after it was clear that she is continuing on her Asiad form going by her scores in the first 2 rounds. Yes. First top 50 win in a long time.

Go Sania.

Sania was all in control of first set but in the second she was trailing 0-5 then she saved six set pints to win in tie beaker

Actually the article does not say that she saved 6 set points. She won 5 games in a row after being 0-5 down.

That is a really good sign. Not sure what made her trail 0-5, but there were cases in the past when she would not fight enought o save the set from falling behind like that. She is playing really well. The cricketer husband was watching - may be that was motivation too :)

I don't know why she is playing doubles - especially at this tournament. Her tendency to ask for injury trouble, always bugs me.

Marvellous win over a top-40 player, and one who is clearly playing near the peak of her career, having recently won her first WTA tour singles title and beaten Ana Ivanovic in Luxembourg 63 61 (after having lost to her twice before, in Linz earlier this year and at the AO last year). Sania had a win over Tammy Tanasugarn at the Asiad and over Akgul Amanmuradova (then ranked #60) in the WTA Guangzhou event IIRC, so she has been in pretty good form for several months now.

The back injury worries me, though. I do wish she would focus on singles for awhile, get her ranking back into the top-80 or so, and then work on lifting that doubles rank.

that was a great comeback..she has lost few matches where she was up 5-0 or 5-1 ...but here the case was totally opposite.incredible stuff.
