India in Winter games

Post by India1989 »

I saw the opening ceremony of winter olympics. I was waiting for a long time and finally it was heartening to see the Indian team coming out.

They spoke out loud in the mike the name of the great country India.

THen came out Indian people. About 10 of them including all the coaches. 4 atheletes. All wearing a Kashmiri cap.

Flag bearer was the first Indian women to go into winter olympics Neha Ahuja (Alpine skier)

I wish them the best of luck in this winter olympics. Hope they make our country proud by performing good. Without enough attention them qualifying is a great thing.

Shiva Keshavan still gets all my sympathy. He's the best. With little money he could get us a gold medal.

Shiva has moved up one spot to 29th to end the day....Half of the event is now done....

A top 25 showing should be the achievable goal for Shiva.

Take a look at this

http://in.rediff.com/sports/2006/feb/11kesh.htm

Shiva boycotted the opening ceremony.

29th out of 36th is a pretty ok ranking.
Was this his best timing?

Man i gotta see him luge.

Is there even a single bit of chance for him to win a medal?

If there is its going to be so good?

Well as I had hoped for Shiva finished at number 25. An applaudable performance

If you look at his starting time Shiva was consistently in the top 20 or so....twice at #12....so starting is clearly his strong point.

This news article is pretty interesting. I came across this.

http://in.rediff.com/sports/2006/feb/23ahuja.htm

By the way Indians faired pretty well in this winter olympics.

Hira Lal did not finish and had a bad run but all other people qualified for the finals.

Shiva came out 25th which was most probably his best results.

Neha Ahuja had a good run and was patient.
In a track where many people did not finish she finished and thus was able to come into top 50 while she was ranked in 70's before the races.

she participated in 2 events.

Alpine skiing slalom women's
and Alpine skiing Giant slalom women's.

Great job team India.

I wish you best of luck for future.

Jamyang Namgial finished last (81st) out of everyone who completed both runs of the Giant Slalom with a combined time of 3:34.92. The winner (Carlo Janka of Switzerland) had a combined time of 2:37.83. There were 22 skiers who either did not start, did not finish or were disqualified in either of the two runs.

This ends India's participation in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

I am sure it is more than three, but, we are a long ways off from being anywhere near anything in the Winter Games. We are largely a tropical country after all.

I like the thread. At least we are AT the Olympics with a few guys, unlike earlier when India did not even have anybody there. We should take part nominally, anyway. After all, everybdoy knows that we are not a snow country, though there are a good number of ski areas in India (may be even more than even some of the medal countries out there, I assume) .. At some point in the future, I hope to see some competitive athletes from India at the winter Olympics. Jay
