The FIA has accepted the F1 Commission's proposal for a new points system ... This step taken due to the expanded grid of 13 teams the new points system will be in place for next season.

I like this new point system as its giving more weightage to finishing on podium and first place driver also getting more points cushion like old days.

Points structure for new system
1st - 25
2nd - 20
3rd - 15
4th - 10
5th - 8
6th - 6
7th - 5
8th - 3
9th - 2
10th - 1

I like the return of Michael Schumacher to the F1 motorsport circuit. Let's see what the world's most successful F1 driver can do this time.

Yes, after top-3 podium finish 5-odd points difference look better than 3 points difference.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) accepted new points structure suggested by teams to encourage what it called "the race to win" ... :)

Also new tyre rule is introduced, now those drivers reaching the third and final phase of qualifying will have to start the race on the same set of tyres with which their grid time was set and the number of dry weather tyres sets allocated per team has been reduced from 14 to 11.

Also from 2011 the 'double diffusers' that introduced last season into controversy from the opening race when some teams such as eventual champions Brawn turned up with a radical interpretation, will be banned ... Last year so-called this 'split level' or 'double-decker' diffuser used by Brawn, Toyota and Williams was a radical re-working of a device that improves downforce by channeling the flow of air smoothly under the car.

Probably much more important rule change is that refueling is no longer allowed - you have to carry the entire race load of fuel at the beginning.

Hearty congrats to Karun. Wish him the best of luck for the 2010 season. Hopefully, he will still have a ride when F1 makes its debut in India in 2011.

Some important rules change for 2010 season

- cars must start with a full tank of fuel to last the entire race ... so fuel tanks have increased in size from around 80 liters to 250, and the cars have a longer wheelbase ... increase weight of cars from 605kg to 620kg
- but drivers will still have to stop for tyre changes which could now take as little as 3 seconds and become a key strategic focus
- the scoring system will be like MotoGP, where the top 10 getting points, 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1
- No use of Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS)
- front tyres have been made narrower ... drivers who reach the third and final phase of qualifying will have to start the race on the same set of tyres with which their grid time was set ... also number of sets of dry weather tyres allocated to each team per race has been reduced from 14 to 11 ... 1 set must be returned after first practice and 2 after second practice ... wheel rim covers, which used by many in 2009, are not allowed
- in-season testing remains banned but a new regulation allows teams to test a replacement driver if he has not taken part in a Grand Prix in the two previous calendar years

Why is no 13 missing in the list of drivers given by Jaydeep two posts before this one? Superstition? :D
