Re: Sania Mirza Schedule 2009
Hard to believe no one from this forum or the media knows exactly where and when Sania will be playing next. I find it odd she has not entered any tournament since losing to Venus back in mid-April.
Re: Sania Mirza Schedule 2009
yes, it is pretty strange. the only thing known is that she has pulled out from the Bucharest Challenger this week where she was seeded 2nd. seemed a good opportunity to get some points and clay court practice but either she is nursing some sort of injury or has other ideas. probably taking it easy on clay courts where she doesn't expect to do well anyways?
jay, would you perhaps be able to ask Imran about it?

Re: Sania Mirza Schedule 2009
No news on Sania'a schedule but last I saw her photo in newspaper shooting in a commercial in Mumbai just last week. I thought she might be on her way to Romania .
But, it seems she does not find playing challangers not lucarative enough specially on clay.

1) I hope that "lucrative" is not a key criteria for her tennis/life decisions at this stage in her tennis career/life.sameerph wrote:No news on Sania'a schedule but last I saw her photo in newspaper shooting in a commercial in Mumbai just last week. I thought she might be on her way to Romania .

2) I hope that it is not an injury.
3) I hope that she is not just sitting out the clay court season because she does not like clay.
So what the heck other reason is there for her to be AWOL from her day job?

her official website is not updated

Re: Sania Mirza Schedule 2009
Imran has said that Sania withdrew from Romania Challenger due to high fever from which she has recuperated and now will be playing the qualifiers in Madrid. In fact, I guess she has already reached Madrid by now. Following Madrid, she will play qualifiers in Strasbourg and then head for the French Open.
Re: Sania Mirza Schedule 2009
thx for the info. seemed something of that sort. all the best for her qualies in Madrid. let's hope she makes it to the main draw.

Well, that's good . At least there will options to choose from.prasen9 wrote:The alternative to Dubai will be the Memphis tournament. The week of 2/23, there is a tournament in Acapulco (clay), followed by Monterrey, Mexico. So, a Memphis-Acapulco-Monterrey(hard)-IndianWells-Miami-PonteVerda,FL would be an option for a lot of players. Sania, of course, will not play all those weeks consecutively.

Tchk. Tchk. Not "will" but "were". Is this another post shorn of its ads by the marauding pens of the moderators?

Sania Mirza To Play in West Classic
Sania Mirza will play the 2009 Bank of the West Classic to be held July 27-August 2.
Sania Mirza will compete in the longest-running women-only professional tennis event in the world.
The Indian reached the singles final at the 2007 Bank of the West Classic where she fell to Anna Chakvetadze. Mirza did not go home empty handed however as she teamed with Israeli Shahar Peer to win the 2007 doubles crown.
Sania Mirza adds will join a field of already committed top players like Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva and Jelena Jankovic.
