The good news for Arjun Atwal::

- Arjun moved up one spot to 137th place after earning $10,971.00 today.

- He has now made cuts in 5 consecutive tournaments.

- Next week’s tournament, Chrysler Championship, has a bigger payout and 10th place can earn approximately $125,000

- He has more or less earned the provisional PGA card for 2007 since the 151st place golfer has won $487,642 and 14 golfers ranked below him will have to leapfrog Arjun for him to lose the provisional card.

Not so good news:

- The current 125th ranked golfer on the money list has $650,314 compared to Arjun’s $550,535.

Good luck Arjun.  A tenth place or better could do the trick.

After splendid third round Arjun couldn't kept momentum and managed to score 3 over to finished out of top 50 instead of top 15 finish ... Now do or die situation for Arjun in that last tournament ... He needs to put consistent performance for all 4 rounds to pull of magical top 10 finish next week and give himself chance to finish in top 125 ... But frankly with his on-off performance in last few weeks it looks dicey.

Jaydeep - you r proving right.........Arjun had a disastrous day today.
He finished +5 and is sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard.
He now needs a miracle round tomo to get into the weekend.
Daniel has just started with 3 pars

Daniel Chopra is -5 after playing 15 holes today.  This is his 100th PGA Tour event and wouldn't it be great if he wins his first PGA title.

While Daniel (T3) finished in top 5 on day one, unfortunately, Arjun finished in bottom 5 with just 4 players behind him.

Daniel has made a good start. If he consolidates his start on the second day, he will be in a good position to contend for the title. Good luck Daniel.

Poor performance from Arjun ... He selected wrong tournament to produced this disastrous round ... a birdie, 4 bogeys and a double bogey is shocking stat when player is in a crunch situation of high stake of grabbing full PGA tour card for 2007.

So this round makes sure that next year Arjun will grab conditional card with 125 to 150 finish and try to grab full PGA tour card through final qualifying.

Other hand Daniel had superb start ... Go Daniel.

At Chrysler Championship - First Round (USPGA Tour)

T44 Daniel Chopra  67 72 71 76  +2  $15,642.57
------------ Cut @ +2 --------------
T121  Arjun Atwal  76 75  +9

As expected after first round Arjun missed cut with big margin and heads towards to play final qualifying round for securing full tour card.

Daniel also struggled in last 3 rounds, but with 5 over last round he missed opportunity to finish in top 25.

PGA Tour Championship - first round:

Davis Love III +9 after 12 holes  :damn:
Geoff Ogilvy +5 after 8 holes
Trevor Immelman and Luke Donald +3 after 9 holes

What's going on?  At least Geoff Ogilvy has an excuse for poor performance, but Davis Love?

Addendum:
Vijay Singh -2 after 8 holes
Retief Goosen -3 after 15 holes
Joe Durant -3 after 14 holes

The cold swirly wind tested the world's best golfers; the leaves and pines falling off the tress on to the greens made putting difficult, and the golfers went in to the clubhouse after their rounds feeling like they have sparred 18 rounds with world heavy weight boxing champion.  Goosen and Durant found success and finished their rounds at -2 and Vijay Singh along with Pernice, Cink, Appleby, Adam Scott and Furyk were one stroke behind.  The remaining 19 golfers could not break par.  Davis Love had the worst round of his PGA career - 12 over par 82.
