Ryder Cup USA or Europe???
USA lost big even in the singles event today and Europe romped home with a 18.5 to 9.5 point victory.
The two teams proved once again that it is not the size of a dog in a fight that matters but the size of the fight in a dog.
The US team with eight golfers ranked in the top 20 in the world was no match for the European team that had only four top 20 golfers.

Ryder Cup USA or Europe???
what a dominating performance by Euros!!! Margin of Victory is really amazing!!! I am guessing the US team Ryder cup players will come firing next week on PGA tour..
The way this week went can be surmised by the one moment on Saturday on the 18th hole When Garcia made the fifty foot putt for the bogey.. In my last 4-5 years of golf watching, I have never seen a better putt than that!!!

Ryder Cup USA or Europe???
Quote of the week for me:
Sergio Garcia, when asked why Europe does so well at the Ryder Cup: "Believe it or not, there are people who can play golf outside of the States."

A "funny" take on America's defeat by, well, an american:
If the U.S. is ever going to defeat Europe, these changes need to be made

Ryder Cup USA or Europe???
Thanks Red_Indian for alerting us to the Sports Illustrated article.
I thought that the Indian Olympic team could come up with some superb excuses for their failures but the US team golfers have beaten the Indians in the excuse category.
The pampered US golfers on the Ryder Cup team have made the multi-millionaire basketball players on the US Olympic team look good.

Re: Ryder Cup USA or Europe???
2006
Europe! Europe! I can't see the Americans winning it (probably means they will!) because of the lack of a "team" ethic. The US tour is so competitive that these guys actually don't get on week in, week out and so to ask them to play as a team is an alien concept to them. This is exemplified by the Woods & Mickleson factor. Furthermore, did anyone notice that Tiger hasn't been practicing much of late. He was at the US Open tennis and then lost in the first round at Wentworth in the matchplay. Now if I was Tom Lehmann I would have thought Tiger would be busy practicing but nope, there he was watching the football at the weekend. He seems to be taking it as a nice holiday.

Re: Ryder Cup 2006, The K Club, Ireland (USA or Europe???)
Ever since European players have been "truly allowed" to play in the Ryder Cup the US has had a much tougher time and I expect that to continue. Earlier the Ryder Cup used to be dominated by the US as it was US vs UK. I expect the US to put a much better show in a couple of years from now.

Re: Ryder Cup 2006, The K Club, Ireland (USA or Europe???)
Somehow the national "amateur" events are of very low priority for professional US athletes in almost all sports (tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, hockey etc.) and they play these events with minimal intensity. Apparently, the rest of world is now pretty good at these events so chances of the laid back US winning these events is becoming much less.
Of course, once you put these same players in the golf pro tour events (including the British Open), you can practically guarantee these same US players will win many more GS than the Euros.
