Asian Junior Squash championships 2005 & 2006

Post by BSharma »

Our boys' and girls' teams both failed to make the team finals of the Asian Junior Squash championship. This suggests that we lack depth in junior squash, although India's #2 junior (Siddharth Suchde) is away in Harvard, and would have greatly strengthened our team (probably ensuring a silver and perhaps even the gold).
Chennai seems to be the only place in India where a junior player can receive good coaching in India, and this could be one reason for the lack of depth in Indian squash.

Does anyone know of Indian facilities similar to the one in Chennai?

Welcome SC.

We are using the newspaper articles as our sources for the connection with the former Army chief. You probably know the inside story.

Does the "C" in SC stand for Cariappa by any chance? :)

Dipika Pallikal won the girls u15 title at the 1st Masonry Asian Junior Squash championship in Singapore. As per report from the start Dipika stamped her authority by playing superb lengths and finishing off with some amazing cross court volley drops.
Dipika Pallikal - I would like to thank Maj. Maniam, consultant coach, Cyrus Poncha, National Coach and the ICL Academy for everything they have done for me to get me where I am today. She paid tribute to a host of others including her sponsors Wilson and Globo Sports.
[F] (3/4) Dipika Pallikal (IND) bt (1) Tong Tsz Wing (HK) 9-2 9-4 9-5

Thanks warpspeed.

Coach Cyrus is the handsome dude - fourth one from the left in the back row - in the photograph (see link in the previous post).

warpspeed - Can you post the names of the players so that we can put the names to the faces? I can identify only three people in that picture.
