Nice article in chessbase about Negi's second GM norm. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2895
The article was written by his coach Vishal Sareen and has analysis on some of his key games.
Lots of photos there, I especially liked the one with S. Kidambi taken right after their game (Kidambi with white lost to Negi). "Fighter" written over Negi's shirt! Yes indeed!!
As the news item says, It's all about a GM in the making.
cheers,

Up next for Negi is the Aroflot open in Moscow. Here are the details I mentioned in an earlier post:
Aeroflot Open is a huge tournament with over $175000 USD in total prize money and four player groups - A1, A2, B and C. Negi is in the A2 group with other players in a rating range of 2400 to 2550. Of the 125 players in his group, only 5 players are rated below Negi. Such a strong average opponent rating is a great opportunity for Negi to gain some valuable rating points and possibly even the 3rd and final GM Norm. It would no doubt be a grand stage to showcase his talents.
The Aeroflot Open is a 9 round Swiss round robin tournament with the first round game slated to begin at 15:00 hour local time on Feb 8th. Thereafter, each round is played on consecutive days at the same time with only the final round starting at 11:00 am local time. In order to become the second youngest GM in the world, Negi will have to score 6 points in 9 games, with an average opponent rating of at least 2476. If he wins 4 games, draws 4 and loses 1 then that would be 6 points.
To put things in perspective Vishy Anand, India's first GM and current world number two, won the recent Corus Wijk aan Zee tournament 2006 with a score of 9 points in 13 rounds. He had 6 wins, 6 draws and 1 loss.
Negi!!

What a way to start the Aeroflot tournament for Negi! In the first round of the 9 round Swiss round-robin, Negi playing black was matched up against grandmaster Zhu Chen from China. Zhu with a rating of 2482 had the advantage of white pieces and still lost to India's chess sensation Parimarjan Negi (2396).
Due to the manner in which Swiss tournaments operate, Negi is likely to have the advantage of white pieces in second round but will likely face a higher ranked opponent.
Negi!!

Update: Negi is scheduled to play with white pieces in the second round against Russian GM Iskusnyh Sergei rated 2510. The second round will start at 3pm local time on 9th February.
Ajay, I am not aware of Negi's hometown. Currently he is the blue eyed boy of Delhi Chess Association!

Today, Feb. 9, is also Parimarjan's birthday.
Let's wish him the best and hope that he cracks Iskusnyh to celebrate in style.
Ajay, Batu is from Chamoli district of Uttranchal. He is born to a Rajput father and a Brahmin mother.
I was told that these two communities are perpetually in conflict in the region. Now that Batu is doing well, both communities are staking claim to their part of the credit.
Funny, isn't it?
Babloo.

Happy Birthday Negi!!
A win would have been a perfect way to celebrate this day, however Negi was only able to hold the Russian GM for a draw. It is still a very good outcome against a much higher ranked opponent.
cheers,

Today was Negi's 13th birthday (born 9-2-1993). He is officially a teenager, no longer a wonder kid!!
Update:
He is up against another GM in the next round, Michele Godena from Italy. She currently has a rating of 2505 and will be playing white against Negi's black pieces.
Negi!! Go get her!!
cheers,

Umm Michele is a guy.
In Europe usually Michele with a single l is a guy and Michelle 2 ll's is a girl. The US where they can't really spell have changed the name to Mitchel (guys) and whatever spelling of Michel(l)e they want

Thanks Babloo. And now I wonder where in Chamoli district? But I guess, he is basically a Delhi boy. He himself may not know much about Chamoli as he probably has spent all his time in Delhi.
Waiting with a suspense for his next result. Go Negi!!!!
And Happy Birthday!!!!
