Multi Billion Dollar Investments in India

As we had often come back to discussing economic benefits/impact of sports I thought it was about time for an economic discussion forum.

Multi Billion Dollar Investments in India

People also realize that BPO etc is not here to stay for a long time..that is one reason why they do not look it as a long term career option.
My post was in response to your comment that BPO firms are like 'sweatshops'...exploiting people.
As long as BPOs are here, it is prudent to make full use of it. If they provide temporary employment to the otherwise unemployed, then there is no problem with that. The government will not rest on these small BPO investments..they are continously vying for more hogh-end Research and Development centers, and its only a matter of time. There are already positive developments in this regard.

People realizing civic responsibilities alone will not achieve a great deal...it has to go hand in had with development of infrasturture, strengthening of economy etc.

all this bpo stuff will not last long

Why do you both (Shaili and Puneets) think BPO's will not last for a long time? The importance of 24hr technical service is increasing day by day and why would any company opt for not having such a wonderful service? And what better place than India for that, which has exactly (more or less) a 12 hour difference (considering most of software companies are located in Bay area, California).

I strongly believe that the most important factor that will count towards development in the coming years is the fact that entrepreneurs are now realising the importance of reaching out to rural India..........

and it isnt as if they are performing some sort of social service by providing amenities to the hinterland it also makes great business sense...

Companies like ITC have realised the importance of this and they can be regarded as the pioneers in this field especially considerin their project E-Choupal which has been a roaring success..

India has a 300 million strong middle class who simply cant seem to stop splurging on luxury items these days but the fact is that there are 700 million more people out there and its good to see that companies are now going into the hinterland and with great work being done in terms of infrastructure with the laying down of quality roads , India is slowly getting connected and Indians are benefitting...The difference b/w Bharat and India is getting blurred.
The disconnect that might have been there earlier because of the lack of development in the lower strata is slowing getting erased and grassroot development is adding to the positive vibes that seems to emenate from so many Indians...Yet a lot more has to be done but we are getting there!!!

Offlate a lot of people are doing a "Mohan bhargav"...For the uninitiated Mohan is the character from Swades who left his job at NASA to come back and work in BARC and also help in generating elec. in his village using non conventional energy sources and stuff like tht....

Jus yesterday a news channel was reporting on this group of Canadian Sikhs who had collected enough money to lay down some 500 km of "pucca" roads in their villages...A really commendable effort and lets hope there are more and more people like this!!
