This is the Kumble-Kohli situation in badminton. We choose to placate our players, which is pathetic if the coach has pointed out legitimate issues. I get graduate students who cannot take criticism and tough scientific adversarial debate. I ask them to find another advisor. We should not be mollycoddling our players giving them celebrity status and carte blanche.

We can’t single out sports people. It’s our culture. From local mohalla pradhan, Ram Lila organizer, to our elected officials and ministers, every littlest position of authority demands to be treated preferentially. What’s a Kohli or Sindhu to do? They don’t know any better.

So, first tournament after covid has started - DANISA Denmark Open I 2020
4 of our men's singles players are playing there.
Lakhsya sen had his match yesterday against Christo Popov and won it comfortably 21-9,21-15. This is a very good win. Christo Popov is last year Junior world championship silver medalist. Lakshya has played against Popov 2 times after that in which Popov won the first in straight sets while Lakshya barely won the 2nd with it going all the way into the 3rd set 22-20.
Looking at the draw, Lakshya sen has a very bad draw with tough players at every stage while Srikanth should have no problems getting into the quarters.

Vittinghus v Laksya Sen a match between a experienced veteran and a young Talent, lived upto its billing , but sadly our guy lost 21-15 7- 21 17- 21
Strangely after wining the first, lost the second game very tamely by making a tons of errors.
Even though the 3rd game was closely fought, the Dane by virtue of wining the second game by a double digit margin , meant he always had a psychological edge which in the end proved decisive.

Earlier in the day , Srikant got the better of Shubhankar's conqueror 21-15,21-14

Yes, it seemed Lakshya just gave away that second game after seemingly in control of the match in the first game. In the third game too, gave an early 1-7 lead to Vittinghus, clawed back to within a point towards the end but Vittinghus kept his nerves and stamina better. Lakshya did look tired towards in the end. Probably being his first tournament after 8 months, we can give him some leeway for not being fully physically up to it but otherwise he should be winning these kind of matches where he is in control.

The youngster losing to the veteran on stamina does not speak well of the youngsters work ethic. Hopefully, the virus layoff had something to do with it. If not, he'll need to find a coach that can make sure he puts in the work needed to be an elite athlete....

Today Srikant takes on the 2nd seed Tien Chen in the qtrs ,Match around 3 to 4 pm local Danish time.

would be very Interesting to see how Srikant shape's up as the Taiwanese always proves to be a roadblock for Srikant.

Srikanth goes down 22-20, 13-21,16-21, Too many errors, Choi’s smash picking percentage was way higher than Srikanth,, and in the final game,Srikanth also
put about 5-6 smashes in the net and that made all the difference.

Despite the loss this was one of the better matches played by Srikanth in a long time. Srikanth has lost the last 6 matchs against Chou over the last 5 years and this was the closest of those 6 losses. There was some really good play from Srikanth in this match which we had not seen for whole of 2019.

I think he is dating indian actress Tapsee Pannu. So I think he is likely to stay longer. Hopefully his motivation is not just personal and would focus on job in hand also.

What I have seen hiring people who do not want to come to the middle-of-nowhere PA, even if people come here because they have a partner here, they are actually more likely to actually work hard to do the job well so that they are here for a long time and are not fired. So, personal and professional motivations actually aligning is a great thing.
