I think some of these Chinese are underranked as they just haven't played enough ranking tournaments given the depth in Chinese badminton and international participation appears to be a federation controlled effort rather than a true professional type participation where everyone is playing as much as they can improve their rankings.

Rankings are not reflective at all for players outside the top 30 or so.

Agree with Sin Hombre.
Kashyap managed to win a game against top-25 Chinese Bin Qiao but lost other two games easily ... Harsheel failed to stretch his lower ranked Chinese opponent in the match.

At $150K China Masters 2017, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China (Grand Prix Gold)

[R3] Harsheel Dani (IND,102) l Feixiang Sun (CHN,180) 17-21 18-21
[R3] Parupalli Kashyap (IND,104) l (3) Bin Qiao (CHN,23) 10-21 22-20 13-21

As per a report, Jwala has been appointed as one of the coaches for the Indian team that will be taking part in the Australia Open Super Series next month ... Is that mean Jwala retiring?

Jwala to travel with Indian team as coach

It does look like that will happen based on this article -

Ready to retire and take up new role: Jwala Gutta

It will be good if she can contribute to improving Indian doubles strength which is already looking up with the Malaysian coach at the helm.

Saina lost but Sai Praneeth reached his second consecutive final.

At SCG Thailand Open 2017 - Grand Prix Gold

[SF] (3) SAI PRANEETH B (IND,24) d. Pannawit THONGNUAM (THA,71) 21-11 21-15

[SF] (2) Saina NEHWAL (IND,11) l. (4) Busanan ONGBAMRUNGPHAN (THA,13) 19-21 18-21

Watched Saina's match and she does appear a touch slow compared to past and that is making all the difference although she is still determined to fight all the way. I wonder if we will ever see Saina of old again.

[F] (3) SAI PRANEETH B (IND,24) vs. (4) Jonatan CHRISTIE (INA,27)

I think the peak age for badminton players is 20-25. There was some discussion here: Peak age All this is, of course, impressions that we have. I have not seen any scientific study. So, we expect to see Saina go downhill.

However, she should maybe take heart from tennis. At some point, teenager girls were winning grand slams. Now, it is Serena/Federer in their mid-30s. The top 5 ATP ranks in men's tennis is held by men over 30 for the first time ever. So, maybe fitness science can help Saina to rejuvenate somewhat. I understand badminton and tennis need different skills and badminton players age faster. But, maybe Saina needs to take a longer training break, come up to full fitness, and then pick and choose events to preserve her body a la Federer. Maybe it will not work. But, perhaps it is worth a try.

Tine Baun won multiple super series premier events in her thirties and as recently as 2013(in her final tournament before retirement at the age of 33). So Saina has inspiration available in badminton as well.

Me watched the match live and felt disheartened to see the slowness in Saina's movement...I want her to play like 2015-16 ..It was not long back and hopefully injury free Saina will as dangerous as before..Tina Baun is an inspiration and Saina should go and prove all of us wrong...Gooo Saina Gooo ...

Sai scored a superb comeback win over Christie in 71 mins for lifting the title ... In the first game, Christie opened 11-14 lead but Sai won next 5 points for leading 16-14 ... After that, he managed to win a point for losing this game ... In the second game, Sai opened a 9-3 lead but Christie made it 9-all ... After that, both players were neck to neck till 15-all ... From here Sai opened a couple of points lead 17-15 and kept that for taking the match into decider ... In the final game, Christie opened early 3-7 but Sai made it 9-all ... Again both players were neck to neck till 17-all ... Sai won next 2 points but Christie responded winning next two, 19-all ... Sai won last two points for lifting this title.

At $120K SCG Thailand Open 2017, (Grand Prix Gold)

Men's Singles Final
(3) Sai Praneeth B. (IND,24) bt (4) Jonatan Christie (INA,27) 17-21 21-18 21-19

Yes,watched the match. It was excellent comeback from Sai against the Indonesian youngster who looked so good and had powerful smashes. Sai kept his composure and prevailed in the end. It does look like after Singapore super series title a month ago, Sai Praneeth is a different player and is beginning to take the next step towards top 10.
