Are they the first Indian doubles pair to be ranked in top 5 in world ? Will have to look up and check. If anyone else knows, he can post it. Anyway, well deserved thread.

Jwala and Diju were ranked 6th in Mixed Doubles. They, however, never won a Super Series level event though they won quite a few Grand Prix event as they were called in those days. They did reach the final of the year end championships once.
Jwala and Aswhini's best rank was 10th.
The best in men's doubles before this was Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas who if I am not mistaken reached a career high of 13th.

World No. 1 position is our goal: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy

“As long as we are able to maintain fitness and stay focused, we are ready for any event. In Tokyo we came close by beating the famed Chinese Taipei pair in the very first match of the competition and it was sheer bad luck that we had to bow out having won the same number of matches as the two other teams in the group. In fact, the Taipei pair went on to win gold, proof of how close the competition was. We know we are ready. We are in the best mental frame. We want to be the world no. 1 team and win a medal in Paris for India and we won’t stop till we achieve these dreams,” said India’s doubles badminton player Satwiksairaj Rankireddy on Backstage with Boria show.

Also, they were seeded to meet the world #3 Malaysian pair of Chia-Soh in the QF against whom they have lost all 5 or 6 of the matches they have played. However, the Malaysians got upset by the world #6 Chinese pair. So, still a tough match coming up but at least it isn't against the pair that has completely owned them.

It was amazing comeback by Satchi. After losing the first game, they were 11-17 down in second game, almost on the way out. But, came back and won that game 22-20 and dominated the third game.

On Friday night, the Indian pair fought off the challenge in 54 minutes, winning 15-21, 21-11, 21-14.

The victory came after a hard-fought 84-minute quarter-final battle and now they will face the Malaysian pair of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi late on Saturday night.
