Both Sindhu and Srikanth lost in close matches.
[R1] Kidmabi Srikanth (IND,14) l. Andors Antonsen (DEN,3) 21-15 16-21 18-21
[R1] PV Sindhu (IND,7) l. Tai Tzu Ying (TPE,1) 21-19-12-21 17-21
Good fight against much higher ranked players but in the end losses.
They need to win their matches tomorrow to stay in contention.

I see a pattern for a long time (even in tennis) that Indian players seem to win the first set and go on to lose the next two almost without fail. Wonder why?

Both lost their second matches too and are out of contention.
[R2] Kidmabi Srikanth (IND,14) l. Tzu Wei Wang (TPE,12) 21-19 9-21 19-21
[R2] PV Sindhu (IND,7) l. Ratchanok Intanon (THA,5) 18-21 13-21
Sindhu's game really seems to have gone down a notch now. Difficult to see her a medal contender for olympics now.

Too big ego. Post silver in Rio. Foreign coaches have had tough time with these players. Same with Saina.

Interesting that the 2 posts above reflect that "fat cats don't hunt."
However, most of the greats like Tiger, Serena, Federer, Nadal, Tom Brady etc. (perhaps Kohli and Dhoni in India) have been quite wealthy for quite a long time while continuing to excel.
So, essentially it's about motivation. If motivated to excel by money, then performance drops off after reaching financial success. Otherwise, if motivated by being the best (which likely is a small group) then they continue to excel even after achieving financial success. Then there are the few like Leander Paes who is motivated by playing for the flag.
My take (based on no real knowledge) is that Saina is motivated to excel and her current decline is more due to age and wear-and-tear (injury). Sindhu, on the other hand, should be at her peak, so perhaps financial success has impacted her motivation.

Third straight loss for Srikanth but Sindhu signed off with a win.
[R3] Kidmabi Srikanth (IND,14) l. NG Ka Long Angus (HKG,8) 21-12 18-21 19-21
[R3] PV Sindhu (IND,7) d. Pornapawee Chochuwond (THA,13) 21-18 21-15
In all 3 matches that he played, Srikanth won the first game but went on to lose 18-21, 19-21 and 19-21. He was so close to winning all 3 matches but lost all 3. It looks lack of confidence in closing out matches. Only consolation is he seems to be playing at the level of these players again. When will the results turn around ?
Sindhu appears to be playing at her ranking level now.
