Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
In the quarter-final, an excellent comeback win by Indians against their Thai opponents ... After losing the first 2 matches of Sai and Srikanth in their singles matches, we were under pressure ... But Arjun and Dhruv won their doubles match to give Indians their first point ... A young Lakshya made it 2-all with a close straight games win over Avihingsanon ... In the decider, our coach took a gamble and introduced the first-time pairing of Chirag and Srikanth ... They defeated a Thai pair in three games for a memorable win for the Indian team ... In the semis, we are facing the top-seed Indonesian team.

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
Got too old and has been meh for many years.
Satwik's injury is terrible news.
No evidence that the top 3 singles players in Srikanth, BSP and Prannoy are in any form.

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
Our top 3 players by rank are Sai Praneeth, Srikanth, and Kashyap. Old Kashyap is still ahead of Prannoy, the Vermas or Sen. Subhankar was taken as was Sen but not the Vermas?

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
It was a very tough match for us against the last 2 times winner, Indonesian team ... But Lakshya and Shubhankar made a match out of it beating higher-ranked opponents … We missed a presence of Satwik, but very valuable experience to our young team… We have won Bronze medal for reaching in the semis.
In the first rubber, Sai retired after losing the first game due to injury … Lakshya produced an amazing performance to produce a biggest win of his career … He defeated a WR #7 Jonathan Christie in tight 2 games to make it 1 match-all … Our new pair, Arjun and Dhruv, played a match of their life … They were so close to beat the WR #2 pair, after losing the first game our pair made a strong comeback in the match and won the second game … From 17-20 down they saved 4 match points before failing to save the 5th match point … Really good performance by our #125 ranked pair … Shubhankar took this match to the 5th rubber with a superb straight-games win over a WR #20 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito … But in the final rubber, the WR #1 Indonesian pair scored a dominating win over a scratch pairing of Chirag and Lakshya and helped the Indonesian team to reach the final.

I am not complaining but were Lakshya and Shubhankar in great form or something that they go to play?

Lakshya sen is the only in some kind of form these days. And Shubhankar's opponent is the same one Srikanth lost to 2 times this year.

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
Frankly, was a bit surprised to see Lakshya and Shubhankar picked ahead of Srikanth and Prannoy. But, the youngsters did their job in a splendid manner. Also young doubles pairing of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila came so close to beating the world #2 pair from Indonesia. So, we have very good talent coming up in doubles too. This Asian team championships gives us a ray of hope in overall atmosphere of gloom for Indian badminton in past few months.
Lakshay had his first top 10 win, I think. He will rise up to a few spots around 27-28 I think next week based on points earned here. Can he make a big push towards top 16 and become second Indian player to qualify for Tokyo olympics in next few months is the big question now. Looks a bit tough but needs 2-3 really good tournaments.

Fantastic performance by Lakshya Sen!! Looks like he is on his way to be our top singles player. Good to see the emergence of competitive players on the doubles side as well...

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
Subhankar Dey's appears to be a story of a determined young man who pulled himself up by his own boot-straps, with no support from anyone (parents, employers, academies, coaches, sponsors) other than his sister in his formative years:

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
I read that Lakshya and Shubhankar got to play yesterday only because Srikanth and Prannoy had already left for Spain for next week's tournament there. That shows how much importance BAI was giving to this tournament. Good that at least youngsters gave it their all and won their matches.

Re: Asia Team Championships 2020
Also shows the depth of talent we have in men's badminton. Although many of the top guys are out of form currently, we have Srikanth Kidambi, Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy as world top-20 contenders, Ajay Jayaram (who has also been ranked in the top-15) and Sameer Verma in the next tier, plus the emerging Lakshya Sen and game trier Subhankar Dey.
