Would like to see the Mens Doubles team get a win. They have been showing signs of a breakthrough into the top 6-8 and a win here would be good confirmation of that trajectory.

Still no sign of revival for Srikanth and Saina. But. good wins for Sameer and Sai Praneeth,

Watched Saina's first set and her movement and reactions are so slow!!!! And Srikanth continues to be a shadow of his former self....

Srikanth's Tokyo hopes are fading fast.

This was the race to Tokyo rankings at the start of this week (and he will fall further behind with a R1 exit)

#8 BSP 39,770
#13 Sourabh Verma 29,760
#21 Kashyap 26,690
#23 Prannoy 26,510
#46 Lakshya Sen 17,900
#51 Sameer Verma 17,019
#53 Subhankar Dey 16,880
#58 Srikanth 16,260

You need to finish in the top 16 to qualify as the 2nd Indian assuming BSP does.

Sourabh, Kashyap have both gotten their points from lower level competitions. They will cap out soon and start falling down this list unless they can win bigger points from the bigger tournaments.

Srikanth needs to start getting to last 4 or better at these bigger tournaments to have any chances.

Sadly Saina's illustrious career.may be ending. Maybe she should try playing some Super 300 events and get some wins and points to regain her confidence rather than losing in the 1st round in every high level event.

Yes, that would be good. But it seems Satwik is sick and was suffering from fever,,vomtings and cough yesterday ( as per his team's twitter handle) and that is why he and Ashwini withdrew from their mixed doubles first round yesterday.

Hope he recovers from that in today's match.

And all of them lost in straight games except Pranav-Sikki. Sindhu lost in first round in third straight tournament after her WC title. The exit if Korean coach seems to have really affected her.

Yes!!! These are the kind of wins I am expecting this duo to get. I like the way the are slowly making their progress upwards; augurs very well for next year's Olympics. Satwik is still 19 and Chirag is just a tad older at 22. They might well be our first pair to reach the pinnacle of doubles in Badminton.

Yes, superb win by Satwik and Chirag. This year they have already beaten 3 pairs ranked in top 5 in the world. So, they certainly have taken a step forward. Now, have to start beating these pairs consistently and they will be in top echelons of mens doubles badminton.

Both Sindhu and Saina also won their R2 matches easily.

At Yonex French Open -

[R2] Subhankar DEY (IND,42) l. Shesar Hiren RHUSTAVITO (INA,24) 6-21 13-21

[R2] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,6) d. YEO Jia Min (SIN,26) 21-10 21-13
[R2] (8) Saina NEHWAL (IND,9) d. Line Højmark KJAERSFELDT (DEN,27) 21-10 21-11

Next,

[QF] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,6) vs. (1) TAI Tzu Ying (TPE,1)
[QF] (8) Saina NEHWAL (IND,9) vs. AN Se Young (KOR,16)

[QF] Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY / Chirag SHETTY (IND,11) vs. Anders Skaarup RASMUSSEN / Kim ASTRUP (DEN,8)
