Only mens and womens doubles matches are being played today -

[R1] Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY / Chirag SHETTY (IND,21) l. (3) Takeshi KAMURA / Keigo SONODA (JPN,3) 12-21 17-21
[R1] ATTRI Manu / REDDY B. Sumeeth (IND,28) d. TAN Wee Kiong / GOH V Shem (MAS,10) 15-21 23-21 21-19

[R1] Ashwini PONNAPPA / REDDY N. Sikki (IND,27) l. CHANG Ye Na / JUNG Kyung Eun (KOR,20) 17-21 13-21

Excellent win by Manu-Sumit over a top 10 pair. Expected more fight from Satwik-Chirag but I guess top 5 level pair are still quite a bit ahead of them.

So, we have 3 in singles, 1 in mens doubles and 1 mixed doubles left in second round tomorrow.

I wish they would have 16 seeds in badminton. WR 13 playing WR 11 and WR10 playing WR9 in the first round happens only in badminton.

While Manu and Sumeeth have been quite good recently, Chirag and Satwik have been generally disappointing. Ashwini and Sikki too have been on a downhill. Overall our doubles is not showing as much improvement as one would have liked to see, more so from the newer crop of players.
Also 16 seeds in a 32 player draw does not make too much sense, it robs the draw of any surprises.

Last week, Sumeet and Manu defeated V Shem Goh and Wee Kiong Tan in three games ... So Satwik and Chirag's loss is bit disappointing.

Only Srikanth and Sindhu remain for us this week and they too had to come thru tough 3 game matches against lower ranked players.

At VICTOR China Open 2018- Super 1000

Good to see Srikanth get consecutive wins in consecutive top level tournaments! Those doubles scorelines don't look good beyond simply being losses.

Yes, both Srikanth and Sindhu lost today.

At VICTOR China Open 2018- Super 1000

[QF] (7) KIDAMBI Srikanth (IND,8) l. (3) Kento MOMOTA (JPN,2) 9-11 11-21

[QF] (3) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,3) l. (5) CHEN Yufei (CHN,6) 11-21 21-11 15-21

Srikanth's loss against all conquering Momota was expected but scoreline was disappointing. Sindhu looks a lit tired these days. I am ok with her these losses as long as she is able to fire up for big events like world championships and Asian games which she did this year.
