Good to see the Indian players continue with their good form from the CWG. With our 4 QFinalists (in Mens and Womens singles), we may have the most representation of any country in easily the toughest continental tournament. Last year, we had only one (Sindhu) who lost in the QF.

The success of gobi man chur Ian started way back in 2014 when Srikanth beat super Dan in the final of the China Open and Saina won the women's title. The tennis players are just following it up.

I wouldn't call this tournament a success unless one of the men wins a medal.

Yes, as of now we have 4 singles quarter finalists ( men and women) which is the highest ahead of Korea and China who have 3 each. But, we need to go on with this success ratio. Srikanth and Prannoy seem to have very tough QF matches against opponents whom they have 0-4 and 1-3 record respectively. I will take 1 win out of 2 from among them and hope both Saina and Sindhu advance.

1 from mens side and 1 from Womens side thru to the SF which ensures a medal.

[QF] Srikanth Kidambi (IND,5) l. LEE Chong Wei (MAS,7) 12-21 15-21
[QF] H. S. Prannoy (IND,10) d. SON Wan Ho (KOR,2) 18-21 23-21 21-12

[QF] Saina Nehwal (IND,12) d. LEE Jang Mi (KOR,15) 21-15 21-13
[QF] Pusarla V Sindhu (IND,3) l. SUNG Ji Hyun (KOR,9) 19-21 10-21

Excellent win by Prannoy over world #2 Korean and Saina continues her good form.

Disappoiniting loss for Sindhu though against a Korean whom she has a good record and Srikanth continues to be dominated by Lee Chong Wei.

[SF] H. S. Prannoy (IND,10) vs. Chen Long (CHN,3)

[SF] Saina Nehwal (IND,12) vs. Tai Tzu Ying (TPE,1)

Overall we have 2 semi finalists in singles same number as China, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Korea 1 each.

Excellent from HSP as Srikanth continues to choke on the first medal-level match.

His palmares now is
- QF exit at the Olympics
- QF exit at the World championships
- F loss in CWG
- QF exit at Asian badminton championships

Nice to see Saina continue her comeback but TTY will be too hard for her to crack.

From whatever little I have seen of Srikanth playing, he doesn't appear to be a choker. He is always going for his shots irrespective of the state of the match. Yeah, the recent results seem to indicate that. Maybe he is not 100% fit.

Both lost in the semi finals and got bronze medals.

[SF] H. S. Prannoy (IND,10) l. Chen Long (CHN,3) 16-21 18-21

[SF] Saina Nehwal (IND,12) l. Tai Tzu Ying (TPE,1) 25-27 19-21

Saina seems to be close to her peak form now and gave an excellent fight against Tai who has been dominant in the womens singles of late.

Overall, both China and Japan got 4 each in the final. So, they are the powerhouses in Asia still. We did not have our best doubles teams here but do not think they would have won a medal in such a strong field.

Good signs from Saina against her nemesis TTY whom she has struggled with for years now. Would have liked Prannoy to put more of a fight but not to be.

Overall, above average tournament from our singles players here.
