And/or somehow keep Sindhu fit. She does look quite athletic and fit. But, she is young. Don't know how she will age. Srikanth is actually two years older than Sindhu. But, you are saying that men can stay competitive for a much longer time? Any conjectures as to why? In tennis, we see both men and women lengthen the conventional retirement age. In badminton, do the women need more flexibility? So, like women's gymnastics they age faster? Men need more power and that remains?

Yamaguchi continues to trouble Indian player ... In the semis, she defeated Sindhu comfortably in 37 mins ... In the first game, till 14-all both players were exchanging the lead ... But from here Yamaguchi won next 13 points and in that she won the first game and took 6-0 lead in the second ... Yamaguchi kept increasing the lead and in the end won this game easily.

In this match also Srikanth started slowly as Prannoy won the first game easily ... In the second game, Srikanth took an early couple of points lead till 10-8, but after that Prannoy took lead ... He was leading 19-17 but Srikanth showed his fighting quality and won next 4 points for taking the match into the decider ... In the third game, both players were exchanging lead till 10-all ... Prannoy opened a couple of points lead from here and was leading 18-16 ... This time also Srikanth outsmarted him and won next five points to enter into another back to back Superseries final.

[SF] (8) Kidambi Srikanth (IND,4) bt Prannoy H.S. (IND,12) 14-21 21-19 21-18

Men stay competitive for longer. But also their peak age is between 23-31 which is similar to tennis.

The women hit their peak earlier (~20) and are past peak by 24-25.

Li Xuerui who was dominant in her early 20s and won the Olympics at 21 has been semi-retired at 25. Wu Yihan officially retired at 28. Saina seems to be past her peak by 26 as well and is already the second oldest player amongst the top 30.

I don't play badminton to answer your questions prasen. I do think tennis isn't too different as per the data once you take out the Williams sisters.

Probably it is a combination of power and endurance which are more important for men and explosiveness for the women?

Very bad defeat for PVS against Akane. Totally outclassed. She also lost badly to Okuhara last time around.

Yes, a really poor result for Sindhu.
In the men's singles final, Srikanth is facing Japanese qualifier, Kenta Nishimoto.

Easy win for Srikanth  consecutive super series titles. He is currently the best player in the world.

Yes, superb win. :notworthy:
Srikanth lifted his fourth Superseries title of the year and becomes the first Indian to achieve that ... In the final, it was a treat to watch Srikanth's half-court smashes, crosscourt smashes, down the line smashes and superb net game ... After falling 5-9 down Srikanth made an excellent comeback in the match ... He dominated after that ... In the second game, after 10-2 down Nishimoto tried fightback but Srikanth was in the total control and completed the win in 35 mins.

At one stage he was toying with Nishimoto. This guy has the potential to become a legend. Overall he has had a better year than Sindhu. He was unlucky to run into a rampaging Axelsen in the World Championship quarter final. Otherwise on current form he is among the top 2.

Total domination.

Becomes the 4th player to win 4 or more SS titles in one year joining Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long.

Also goes to 4th behind those 3 in the all time SS title count.

And the delightful to watch Tai-Tzu Ying dismantles Akane Yamaguchi in the women's final. Goes past Saina into sole 4th spot in the all time list.

Surprisingly, despite her domination at the SS level, she is like Srikanth medal-less at the biggest tournaments. Lost to Xuerui and PVS in her 2 Olympic appearances and has a run of 3 successive QF losses at the WC before skipping this year's when she has been in great form.

Now with the benefit of hindsight, looking at his results before and after world championships where Srikanth was winning superseries left and right, i find WC an aberration where he lost to Son wan Ho of korea who is sort of ok dokie player and certainly no Lin dan or even Axelsen for that matter.Srikanth lost his left shoe during a rally and that may have disconcerted him in that match following link actually captured that moment https://www.google.co.in/amp/indianexpr ... 3848/lite/
I feel it doesn’t behold the stature of any professional badminton player to lose shoe like that, i mean I never saw any Tennis player losing shoe in rally there have been incidents of losing racquet though which is ok but losing shoe indicates a more serious problem either he didn’t tie lace properly or more probable using a bigger sized shoe than one that fits right for him. Either way it would have seriously compromised his agility amd mobility which costed him that Quarter Final and probably the WC, he may know better and it may haunt him for ever

He lost to Son-wan Ho in the WC quarterfinals. That's the kind of match Srikanth needs to prove that he can win against a solid retriever, it took him a lot of time to get going in that match.

Of course, the other concern is if/when Chen Long and Kento Momota return to top form. Both Srikanth and Axelsen have negative records against both.

My bad. It was Son Wan Ho, not Axelsen. But I guess that loss was an aberration.
