Re: Lakshya Sen
Good to see Lakshya win this but by now he should be challenging at higher level. Having a look at his junior same level counterparts, Chinese Li Shi Feng won Canandian open super 100 title beating Kashyap in the final, Thai Kunlavut is ranked 50 with a couple of international challange titles. Japanese Kodai is ranked slightly ahead at 72.
These were the 3 young players whom Lakshya was winning and losing on and off on junior circuit. So, as of now he is a bit behind them on senior tour.

Yes, these days his progress looks stagnant ... Hopefully, we will see progress in the near future.

Re: Lakshya Sen
It's not a one off phenomenon though. Siril Verma, the 2015 world junior silver medalist won his medal by beating wangchoraen and antonsen. This year wang won bronze and antonsen silver in world championships.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 11:35 am Good to see Lakshya win this but by now he should be challenging at higher level. Lakshya needs a change and may be that's what's happening. Lakshya has started training in Denmark since the start of september for a stint of 3 months where he will play in denmark league but most importantly he will be coached by Morgen frost. Hope this change helps him.

Re: Lakshya Sen
Watched Lakshya Sen in Dutch open today and except for his movement he really has no other strengths.

Re: Lakshya Sen
I did not see the match today to comment on it. But, Lakshya has moved thru to the QF there at Dutch open with a decent win against #56 Ygor Koelho from Brazil. Up against another promising Indian youngster Rahul Bhardwaj in the QF. Rahul beat 52nd ranked Dane Victor Svendsen in the PQF.
Disappointing from Verma brothers here. Both lost to players ranked way below them.

Re: Lakshya Sen
This is why comparing against people who he beat as a junior and comparing the heights reached by say an Isner-equivalent is fraught with perils. You can win in juniors or lower levels by having some skills but when it comes to the main stage other skills matter more.

Re: Lakshya Sen
badmintoncentral seems to agree with this opinion. They think he lacks the skills to do well at the senior level but his elite athleticism was able to mask it at the juniors.

Re: Lakshya Sen
If he is beating players ranked in the 50s week in and week out, he must be reasonably good. But perhaps not good enough to make the leap to the top-30 and beyond. Get him some seriously good coaching, since (like Leander, say) he has the physical attributes but lacks the sport-specific skills to be a top player, based on these comments.

Re: Lakshya Sen
Lakshya won the biggest title of his career on a comeback win.
At YONEX Dutch Open 2019, Super 100
[F] Lakshya SEN (IND,72) d. Yusuke ONODERA (JPN,160) 15-21 21-14 21-15
I watched the match from second game onward. I do not feel like some others that Lakshya does not have anything in his game except movement. He smashed around pretty well and his defense was outstanding. This tournament had 8 players in top 50. So, it is a good achievement to win this tournament.

Re: Lakshya Sen
Lakshya lifts the biggest title of his career as he lifted his first Super 100 tournament title ... Good to see that Lakshya took full advantage of a weaker draw as the seeded players lost in earlier rounds.

Re: Lakshya Sen
Very good win from Lakshya Sen against an inform Onodera. He mixed things up well and kept Onodera guessing after the first set. His defense was good too.
