This pair is here to stay. Chirag is 20 and Sattvik just 17. The latter, especially, is very highly talked about. His smashes are supposedly top notch. I missed watching them when they played at the US Open in Anaheim where they lost in R1. I was able to chat with Sattvik briefly. Very sweet kid.

Who were the last pair before them?

Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas made the QF in Indian Super Series in 2012.

Sameer Verma put up a good fight against top ranked Korean but failed to put it across him.

[QF] Sameer Verma (IND,26) l. (1) Wan Ho Son (KOR,1) 22-20 10-21 13-21

2 Indian players, Kashyap and Sameer took the top ranked Korean to 3 games in consecutive rounds but neither could finish the job. :-(

Sindhu's QF and the mens doubles one to come later today.

Like it or not Jwala Gutta was the best doubles player India had. Her record with V.Diju in mixed doubles is also good and she also did well with Shruti Kurien in women's doubles. On a lighter note, she would qualify in the club of India's most unfit sportspeople along with other greats like Vijay Manjrekar, Bishen Singh Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna.

She was heavy set. But, you cannot compare a badminton players with the likes of Bharti Arun, etc.

:D
Bharti Arun came to bowl his first ball in test cricket and fell down at the popping crease. He went on to coach Indian bowlers. What an irony.

Yes, Sindhy take a revenge!

Sindhu became first Indian to win Korean Superseries title beating World Champion Nozomi Okuhara in a quality match ... With that Sindhu took a revenge of World Championship loss against the same player in the final.

In the first game, Sindhu took an early couple of points lead but Nozomi caught her and then both players were neck to neck till 17-all ... Nozomi had two game points at 18-20, but Sindhu kept fighting and won next four points to capture this game ... Nozomi took control of the second game from the beginning and won it comfortably ... In the final game, from 4-all Sindhu took a control with her half smashes and better net game ... At the changeover, she was leading 11-5, but World champion Nozomi raised her game and made sure every point extended to long rally ... Sindhu was visibly tired but kept fighting and at 18-16 she won 56 shots long rally ... Sindhu had 3 match points at 2017 and she converted 2nd when Nozomi hit out.

At $600K VICTOR Korea Open 2017, Seoul (Superseries)

Women's Singles Final
(5) Pusarla V. Sindhu (IND,4) bt (8) Nozomi Okuhara (JPN,9) 22-20 11-21 21-18 (83m)

At $600K VICTOR Korea Open 2017, Seoul (Superseries)
P.V.Sindhu bt Naomi Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 (1hr 23 minutes)

What an epic final it was! Don't miss the 3rd game, it was truly a memorable win for India. Sindhu fought like a gladiator even when she was dead tired and could barely get up after each point towards the end. I started watching around the middle of the second game when Sindhu was already down 8-14 (having won a close 1st game at 22-20). Her body language was bad, her smashes lacked any punch, she was barely there as Okuhara toyed with her to win the game 21-11. But once the decider started, Sindhu was a totally different player altogether. She started dominating from get go and kept the lead throughout. At the change over, while leading 11-7, was the first time Sindhu started showing signs of lacking endurance. Boy, can these girls rally like there's no tomorrow! 25+ shot rallies were on display pretty much every other point. Even though Sindhu was winning most of these points, she barely had energy to stand up once the point was finished. On the other hand, Okuhara looked as fresh as a flower and was ready to go for 3 more hours. She has got to be one of the most fittest badminton players. The epic point got to be the one with a 56 shot rally (I think it was at 18-16), which Sindhu won to extend her slender lead towards the finish line. Even as Okuhara was trying to play mind games by jumping and sprinting and showing that she is raring to go, Sindhu didn't budge and pulled out every ounce of energy left in her body to take revenge of her recent loss at the world championship. This was a very crucial win for Sindhu since it will put her on even keel with Okuhara. Sindhu will send chills down the spine of anyone that stands across the net to her. A must watch 3rd game for every sports lover. Don't you dare miss it! :)

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu...you are on the path to becoming a legend! :notworthy: :notworthy: :bounce: :bounce: woohoo woohoo

Yes, superb win for Sindhu. :bounce:

After losing the second game badly, I thought it is game over for Sindhu. But, Sindhu is made of sterner stuff. Great comeback from her in third.

Coaching is different than bowling. If you spot patterns and are a good communicator/motivator, you can become a good coach. Of course, he has to also have the basic knowledge (or may be expert knowledge) of the game's arts.

And, one is kept wondering what-if. I guess Sindhu/Okuhara is becoming a slug-fest with someone outlasting the other.

Not on the path but Sindhu is clearly a legend by Indian standards.

At this point, in my opinion, she is already India's best ever badminton player despite not having reached #1 like Saina or Padukone.

She of course needs to achieve that and win a gold at the Olympics or the World championship level to become a global legend of the sport..

If Sindhu can work on her endurance and get to the level of the likes of Okuhara, she will rule the roost for many years.

I only saw the world championship final. And, I did not think that Sindhu was that much more tired or unfit than Okuhara. Okuhara was once warned by the umpire not to take a break. Both of them were exhausted.

Badminton is sort of asinine in that they do not allow small breaks as tennis players are allowed to just pick up a towel and wipe off their sweat between points. The umpire gets more antsy after a few seconds and starts calling people to get things going. If a few seconds allows the players to play better, then why not allow it. The game will be better for the spectators.
