Prasen, while the 3rd game score looks much more similar to that of World Championship finals, it was a lot more physical yesterday. Sindhu won it with pure grit since she was clearly struggling to catch breath while Okuhara was totally ready for the next point. I don't know if Sindhu's exhaustion was just one-off thing yesterday. But, if she were a little more fresher Okuhara wouldn't have scored more than 12 points in the decider. It takes a champion to eek out a win from such a physical situation. Sindhu had proved it beyond doubt that she is one!

Varma, thanks for the update. At the WC, both were gone. So, I was surprised. So, indeed Sindhu needs to work on her conditioning more.

Sindhu played 66 minutes in the semis vs 38 for Nozomi, so I wouldn't be as certain about the relative conditioning.

Pranav and Sikki started with a win.

Sameer and Saina r in the second round with comfortable wins ... But our all doubles pairs lost against seeded pairs but in that Satwik and Chirag gave fighting performance.

Next match is between to former WR #1 as Saina is facing Carolina Marin.

[R1] Sameer Verma (IND,25) bt (Q) Khosit Phetpradab (THA,32) 21-12 21-19

[R1] Saina Nehwal (IND,12) bt Pornpawee Chochuwong (THA,25) 21-17 21-9

[R1] Manu Attri (IND)/ Sumeeth B. Reddy (IND) l (8) Lee Jhe-Huei (TPE)/ Lee Yang (TPE) 18-21 15-21
[R1] (Q) Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (IND)/ Chirag Shetty (IND) l (3) Marcus Fernaldi Gideon (INA)/ Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (INA) 23-25 15-21
[R1] Ashwini Ponnappa (IND)/ N. Sikki Reddy (IND) l (3) Ye Na Chang (KOR)/ So Hee Lee (KOR) 17-21 12-21

[R2] Prannoy H.S. (IND,18) vs Jen Hao Hsu (TPE,27)
[R2] Sameer Verma (IND,25) vs (2) Yuqi Shi (CHN,4)

[R2] Saina Nehwal (IND,12) vs (5) Carolina Marin (ESP,5)

Sindhu comes thru after losing the first game.

[R1] (4) Pusarla V. Sindhu (IND,4) d. Minatsu Mitani (JPN,19) 12-21 21-15 21-17

So, that brings Sindhu-Okuhara part III tomorrow.

[R2] (4) Pusarla V. Sindhu (IND,4) vs Nozomi Okuhara (JPN,9)

So, overall decent day for us with 6 out of 11 wins. The only real disappointment was Sai Praneeth losing to a much lower ranked Korean after winning the first set. The other 4 losses were against seeds and were expected. Good fight by Satwik and Chirag there against a pair which has won 3 super series titles this year. They are getting there slowly at this level.

We have 3 in mens singles, 2 in womens singles, 2 in mixed doubles left in last 16.

The most difficult ones appear in womens singles - Saina against Olympic champion Marin and Sindhu against world champion Okuhara.

Badminton has an asinine seeding policy. At least the top 16 should be seeded.
