Close loss for Pranav-Sikki in the SF.
At $325K YONEX Japan Open 2017, Tokyo, Japan (Superseries)
[SF] Pranaav Jerry Chopra (ND)/ N. Sikki Reddy (IND) l. (Q) Takuro Hoki (JPN)/ Sayaka Hirota (JPN) 21-14 15-21 19-21
Still , a very good run by this pair. Indian doubles scene is finally looking up. We had mens doubles quarter finalist last week and mixed doubles semi finalists this week.

To me, it was a silver opportunity lost. They were playing qualifiers and lost a close match. These are the types of matches you need to win if you need to move ahead.sameerph wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 4:32 am Close loss for Pranav-Sikki in the SF.

Agree with Rajit, a big missed opportunity of playing their first Superseries final.rajitghosh wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 5:04 amTo me, it was a silver opportunity lost. They were playing qualifiers and lost a close match. These are the types of matches you need to win if you need to move ahead.

Okuhara gave a walkover to Marin. Wish she had given the walkover to Sindhu.

Re: Korea Open / Japan Open Super Series, September 2017
Oftentimes when a qualifier team is playing well and reaching the quarterfinals or semis of a big tournament, we should not consider them as just qualifiers, especially when it is at home. Home field caused Sania to win her WTA tournament, Somdev to get to the finals, etc. They did it not just because they were playing superb tennis, but because they were at home which caused them to play above their level and confidence-level.

In fact both the Japanese were ranked higher in mens and womens doubles- women ranked #5 and man #15. They have not played much as a team in mixed doubles. That is why they had to go thru qualifying.
