Quarter final match-ups are quite tough for our players -

[QF] REDDY B. Sumeeth / Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND,86) vs. (3) LU Kai / HUANG Yaqiong (CHN,2)

[QF] SAI PRANEETH B. (IND,30) vs. (8) Tanongsak SAENSOMBOONSUK (THA,11)
[QF] KIDAMBI Srikanth (IND,29) vs. SHI Yuqi (CHN,8)

[QF] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,5) vs. (4) Carolina MARIN (ESP,2)

[R2] REDDY B. Sumeeth / Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND,38) l. (1) Misaki MATSUTOMO / Ayaka TAKAHASHI (JPN,1) 11-21 21-19 12-21

That's seriously impressive.

Also, is Saina injured?

You mean, winning a game against the top ranked team is impressive? I don't want to belittle our players' performance, but losing the other two games with a low score doesn't speak much of this match.

Better performance by the men in a SS Premier tournament with 2 of them making the QF. Hopefully, at least one can progress further.

It is though given how poor we are in doubles.

If Yuki won a set against a fully fit Raonic or a Nishikori, would you not consider it impressive?

This pair is the world #1, Olympic champions and very dominant in recent years.

So it appears that they won their 2nd round and are now in the QF. Only if they win their QF will they have a chance to meet the top ranked Japanese.

No, Arjun. It was my mistake it was womens doubles pairing of Sikki REDDY and Ashwini PONNAPPA iwho took a game off the world #1 pairing.

Sumith Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa have reached mixed doubles QF.

Sumith and Ashwini lost in QF but Sai Praneeth upsets 8th seeded Thai to reach his first super series SF.

[QF] REDDY B. Sumeeth / Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND,86) l. (3) LU Kai / HUANG Yaqiong (CHN,2) 11-21 8-21

[QF] SAI PRANEETH B. (IND,30) d. (8) Tanongsak SAENSOMBOONSUK (THA,11) 15-21 21-14 21-19

Srikanth and Sindhu play their QF's later. Hoping at least one of them wins.

Detailed results -

[QF] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,5) l. (4) Carolina MARIN (ESP,2) 11-21 15-21

[QF] KIDAMBI Srikanth (IND,29) d. SHI Yuqi (CHN,8) 21-14 21-16

Next,

[SF] KIDAMBI Srikanth (IND,29) vs. Anthony Sinisuka GINTING (INA,26)

I think after a long time, we have 2 players in mens singles SF. Hope at least one makes it to the final.

Wow, fantastic results by the men after quite a while! Moreover, the SFs should be quite competitive as the opponents have similar or lower ranks...

I watched Pusarla Sindhu's match against Marin yesterday, but PVS was totally off colour. She fell far behind early in both games, and the only real fight from her was when she strung together several points to go from 11-19 to 15-19 in the second game. She needed more such streaks earlier in the match, but rarely won more than two points in succession. It has been downhill for her since the Indian Open final.

Looks like I should have concentrated on the men instead! Two Indians in the singles semifinals: incredible!
