Re: Yonex Sunrise India open Super Series 2017
Only Sindhu and Saina (who play each other) and Sameer Verma make it to the quarterfinals. Poor showing at home.

Re: Yonex Sunrise India open Super Series 2017
These are detailed results -
Pre-quarterfinals:
Men: Sameer Verma bt Hu Yun (Hkg) 21-17, 21-15; 7-Chou Tien Chen (Tpe) bt B. Sai Praneeth 21-14, 21-16; 3-Victor Axelsen (Den) bt K. Srikanth 21-7, 21-12; 6-Ng Ka Long Angus (Hkg) bt Sourabh Verma 21-19, 14-21, 22-20.
Women: 3-P. V. Sindhu bt Saena Kawakami (Jpn) 21-16, 23-21; 6-Saina Nehwal bt Pornpawee Chochuwong (Tha) 21-10, 21-17; 1-Carolina Marin (Esp) bt Rituparna Das 21-13, 21-11.
Doubles: 4-Puttita Supajirakul & Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Tha) bt Ashwini Ponnappa & N. Sikki Reddy 21-15, 21-10; 3-Naoko Fukuman & Kurumi Yonao (Jpn) bt Shruti Mundada & Anoushka Parikh 21-5, 21-10.
Mixed doubles: Evgenij Dremin & Evgenia Dimova (Rus) bt 7-Pranav Chopra & N. Sikki Reddy 21-18, 21-19.
Disappointing on mens side with only Verma brothers performing well. Sameer getting a top 15 win after a top 5 one and Sourab getting close to winning against a top 10 player. Srikanth continues to underperform. He had a good record Axelsen before. So, losing by such scoreline against him shows regression in his game.
Also with all the talk of doubles focus, no doubles team even in QF in a home event is disappointing.

Re: Yonex Sunrise India open Super Series 2017
Sindhu has clearly been the better player for the past couple of years (as so evident at last year's Olympics). But I wouldn't write-off Saina by any means either. It is great that we have two top-8 women's badminton players, with the capacity/potential to contend credibly for world and Olympic titles on a regular basis.

That's the difference now, it was other way round 2 years ago.

Re: Yonex Sunrise India open Super Series 2017
Sindhu wins the first game 21-19.
Very close match though. Marin can come back strongly as she did in Rio. Let's see how Sindhu matches up with that.

Superb win. The crowd really helped Sindhu today and she stayed on top in second game here unlike Rio.
Sweet revenge for her.
