Malyasia Open SSP/ Singapore open SS- April 1-12, 2015
Lets have one thread for 2 back to back tournaments.
Malaysia open starts tomorrow and these are our match-ups -
At Maybank Malaysia Open Super Series Premier
[R1] (4) K. Srikanth (IND,4) vs. Rajiv OUSEPH (ENG,20)
[R1] PARUPALLI Kashyap (IND,13) vs. LEE Dong Keun (KOR,30)
[R1] H. S. Prannoy (IND,17) vs. Scott EVANS (IRE,25)
[R1] (3) Saina NEHWAL (IND,2) vs. Maria Febe KUSUMASTUTI (INA,47)
[R1] Manu ATTRI / B. Sumeeth Reddy (IND) vs. Andrei ADISTIA /Hendra Aprida GUNAWAN (INA)
[R1] Jwala GUTTA /Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND) vs. Keshya Nurvita HANADIA / Devi Tika PERMATASARI (INA)
I am guessing it will be tough follow up for our players after heady success in Delhi last week but lets see.

Bad draws for Kashyap and Prannoy. If they win their Round 1 matches ,they will face Chen Long and Lin Dan respectively.

Not sure what's going on with Sindhu's rehab. It has been more than two months since she played anywhere....

I wouldn't write off Prannoy. He is easily playing at a top 10 level since last September and will see that reflect in the rankings if he maintains it over the next few months.
I am more concerned with Saina and Srikanth - they have both played a lot of matches of late and might run out of steam.

Only Saina plays on Court 2 for us today.

She's still in the Main draw of next week's Singapore Super Series... Hopefully, she'll be able to play there......prashanthm wrote:Not sure what's going on with Sindhu's rehab. It has been more than two months since she played anywhere....

Prannoy has a similar draw at next week's Singapore SS. If wins his R1 match, he'll come up against 2nd seed Jorgensen. I hope Prannoy will be able to repeat his Indian open magic here too.....

K. Srikanth [4] bt Rajiv OUSEPH 21-10 15-21 24-22
Hard fought win win against an inconsistent opponent with a decent record against the top guys. Not sure how much more Sri has in the tank.

This off-topic, but can we now expect 2 quota places each in both singles categories for Rio 2016 in badminton? cutoff ranking is 16 and if Prannoy, Sindhu can make it along with Saina and Srikanth there is a good possibility of more than one medal in Rio from badminton.

Re: Malyasia Open SSP/ Singapore open SS- April 1-12, 2015
And except for doubles it is going to be India vs. China tomorrow -
[R2] (4) K. Srikanth (IND,4) vs. TIAN Houwei (CHN,16)
[R2] PARUPALLI Kashyap (IND,13) vs. (1) CHEN Long (CHN,1)
[R2] H. S. Prannoy (IND,17) vs. (5) LIN Dan (CHN,3)
[R2] (3) Saina NEHWAL (IND,2) vs. YAO Xue (CHN,74)
[R2]] Jwala GUTTA /Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND) vs. (6) Nitya Krishinda MAHESWARI /Greysia POLII (INA)
Almost impossible matches for Kashyap and Prannoy against world no.1 and 3 respectively while Srikanth does not have an easy match either especially considering that he may be tiring now. The only relatively easier match is for Saina.

Possibly a return to active duty only when the OG qualifying period begins?prashanthm wrote:Not sure what's going on with Sindhu's rehab. It has been more than two months since she played anywhere....

Re: Malyasia Open SSP/ Singapore open SS- April 1-12, 2015
Kashyap has almost no chance, Prannoy has a decent chance against a sub-par Lin Dan though.
