Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Yes, because the grouping is based on their superseries rankings not their world rankings. World rankings include other tournaments such as world championships or lower level events like grand prix gold etc.

Both Indians start on a losing note.
Saina lost to Okuhara 14-21 6-21.
Srikanth lost to Momota 13-21 13-21.

wow, pathetic losses.
Our medal prospects at the Olympics are bleak as things stand.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Saina said she was rusty after not playing for 3 weeks while Gopi said that Srikanth has played too many matches in recent weeks and therefore was not at his best yesterday. Completely opposite reasons given.
Rio is still about 8 month away. So, I am still hopeful particularly on womens side. Both Saina and Sindhu are very much capable of rising to the occasion. Saina won a world championships silver this year while Sindhu won a medal in the same in last 2 years.

Solid match from Saina...But Its important that Narin loses to Okahura tomorrow first and then Saina have a chance seal the semi final spot...

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Please also update the scores instead of just discussing.
Saina NEHWAL (IND) d. Carolina MARIN (ESP) 23-21 9-21 21-12
Srikanth lost his second match.
K. Srikanth (IND) l. Viktor AXELSEN 13-21 18-21
Another scenario is if Marin beats Okhura in straight games, if Saina also beats Tai also in straight games, she is still in with a chance and in that case it may come down to number of points.

Yes, if Okhura beats Marin and Saina beats Tai, Saina wil be thru to the SF.kaustav wrote:Solid match from Saina...But Its important that Narin loses to Okahura tomorrow first and then Saina have a chance seal the semi final spot...

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Not really. In that case Okhura would have lost 2 games whereas saina has lost 3. So Okhura would qualify.sameerph wrote:

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Because saina has lost more games (and points), she has to pretty much hope that Okuhara continues her run and beats Marin as well. I don't think there is a scenario where Marin wins and saina can still get to the SFs.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Yes, understood. Okuhara-Marin match is before Saina-Tai match. So, Saina will know exactly if she has a chance to qualify for SF before she plays.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
Okuhara is the best player from this group so she is obviously expected to beat Marin.

Re: Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals
OK so Okuhara has done her bit and defeated Marin in straight games. Now Saina has to beat Tai and avoid any complications of getting into games and points.
