Re: Srikanth Kidambi - WR #16
Thanks Jaydeep for starting this thread.
Srikanth started showing his promise last year when he won the Thailand Grand prix gold title beating local favourite Bonsak Posanna in the finals in straight games. After a few more good performances early this year he had reached a career high of 13 in May 2014. But, then showed some inconsistent results to go down to early 20's before he came back to a ranking of 16 last months. Now, with this title he will for the first time break into top 10 for the first time in his career.
He is only 21 and so has enough time to show consistency, get more such results and become a true successor to the like of Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand. We have been missing such player on mens side since.

OHHHH MYYYY GOOODDD! A win against the Legendary Lin Dan in straight games......
With this win, Srikanth gets to his career best #10 in Rankings....
He now also has a shot at making the year-end Superseries Finals.... He's going to be around ~6 with this title win and the Top-8 make it into the Finals.....

Re: Srikanth Kidambi - WR #10 in Nov 2014
Srikanth is now at a new career high at no. 8 in the singles world ranking.
In fact at 21, he is the youngest player in top 10 by some margin. Everyone else in the top 10 are above at least 24. Lets hope Srikanth continues on this progress path and in a 2-3 years he can become a real world beater.

Re: Srikanth Kidambi - WR #4 in DEC 2014
As expected Srikanth Kidambi climbs to his career best WR #4 ranking after his BWF World SuperSeries Finals semi-final appearance.
So Saina is WR #4 in women's singles and Srikanth in men's.

True, from world no. 47 to world no. 4 in a year's time is an amazing climb for Srikanth. He is only the third Indian male to break into top 5 after Prakash Padukone and Gopichand.

Yep. We were waiting on one of the young Indian male badminton players to breakout for a while. Hopefully Prannoy does the same next year.jayakris wrote:He is really the most amazing story in Indian sports this year, right?

Re: Srikanth Kidambi - WR #4 in DEC 2014
After a great end to the last year, Srikanth is having a terrific start to this year with 2 titles (India super series today and Swiss grand prix gold) and 1 runner up (India grand prix gold) in the 4 tournaments he has played so far. He missed out only at All England where he lost in first round against Kento Momata of Japan whom he beat this week in New Delhi.
He is also making it a habit of fighting it out and winning matches in 3 games. He has won 9 such matches which went to the distance this year while losing only 1 of them in All England.
Hope he can continue that good run for next 2 weeks in Malaysia and Singapore and also for the rest of the year.
