I don't think he (Lin Dan) is planning on a comeback -- he comes and plays when he wants to. He is so good that, somewhat depressingly for top players, he can still contend and win by playing randomly. Badminton can't afford to turn its back on him given his popularity.prashanthm wrote:He's making a comeback after a break, I presume...

Yes, he's still very good. Last week, he played and won a GP Gold event in China without being challenged in a single set including beating Chinese players ranked WR #7 and #15 in the final 2 rounds easy straight sets. Clearly, he's pretty close to being a WR #1 in his level of play right now.suresh wrote:I don't think he (Lin Dan) is planning on a comeback -- he comes and plays when he wants to. Re: Asian Badminton championships 2014, Gimcheon, Korea
He won the world championship last year ranked outside 100.
Without a doubt, both him and LCW are miles ahead of every other singles player.

upset in terms of ranking, however given how Chinese players are in general pretty much expected...

Re: Asian Badminton championships 2014, Gimcheon, Korea
Good run by Sindhu & nice to Jwala-Ashwini doing well after a long time.
Next,
[SF] P V Sindhu (IND,10) vs (2) Shixian Wang (CHN,2)
[SF] Ashwini Ponnappa (IND)/ Jwala Gutta (IND) vs Ying Luo (CHN)/ Yu Luo (CHN)
Sindhu plays in-form Wang whom she had beaten 3 times before losing in the Indian open super series last month. She has a chance to avenge that defeat now.

Re: Asian Badminton championships 2014, Gimcheon, Korea
This is a GPG level tournament at best. Singapore open SS where we had one semifinalist (Srikanth) and 2 quarterfinalists (Sindhu and Praneeth) is still better. Of course, if both win tomorrow, I will have a different tune.Omkara wrote:2 in SFs.... One of the better tournaments this year

Re: Asian Badminton championships 2014, Gimcheon, Korea
Sindhu had a match point in the 2nd set against Shixian Wang but couldn't convert, on to a decider now.
