Ashwini/Jwala are 4 places up at #32...

Srikanth rises 5 spots to be at a career high #13 and is very close to a Top-10 spot...
Kashyap is the only other player in Top-25 at #21...

Their low ranking can be mainly to be attributed to injuries. Ajay did not play for 6-7 months from Jan to August and Guru has not played anywhere since June. So, their ranking is not really representative. I agree about Saurabh who seems to have stagnated.

The young ones are Srikanth , Prannoy and Praneeth. Looking forward to at least 1 of them to break in to top 10 soon and for Kashyap to do so on more immediate basis.

Do we have a life-time best ranking thread for Indian badminton players a la tennis? I can try to construct one but if it is already there or if some trivia buff already has it and can post/start a thread, that will be great.

For now, I will update the new rankings which came out today. Srikanth is in top 10 for the first time .

Incredibly, in mens singles we now have highest no. of players in top 50 in the world -7 just ahead of China at 6 and Japan at 5. If one goes to top 25 , we have 3 which is 1 less then China and equal to Japan and Denmark . We have great depth in mens tennis now and only need a couple out of Prannoy, Guru, Saurabh,Praneeth to go to top 20 and Kashyap to go to top 10 for us to actually become a dominant nation in mens singles.

Saina is back to no. 4 behing 3 Chinese.
