Is this some kind of a joke? Aditya Joshi lost in the R-32 in the 2013 world jr championship and R-16 in the 2013 Asian jr. championship but somehow becomes world #1 based on winning the Indian nationals. There must be some quirk in how these rankings are calculated because he is probably pretty far from the true #1 junior player in the world.

This link gives the possible reasonfor this quirk. Looks like some top ranked juniors have decided to get promoted to senior level.

At the start of a year, several of the 18+-year-olds fall out of the rankings, so the highest-ranked 17-year-old goes to the top. The key is to sustain it. If he is still #1 at the end of April, he will really have earned it.

Wow, we have great depth in Mens singles with 8 in the top-50 but none in the top-10. Hopefully, a couple of the youngsters in the top-50 will get close to the top-10 this year with Srikanth seeming like the most likely one to do so.

Srikanth would have been even higher if he hadn't choked so badly last weekend in the final. One of the worst chokes I have seen.

The battle for top ranked Indian women player is getting closer with Saina ranked 8th & Sindhu 9th in the latest rankings.

This is a nice article on that -

While Sindhu has been doing well ( not that consistent though), Saina form has taken a hit. Some say its because of injury. But for moment if we assume its mostly due to poor form and Sindhu over takes Saina in ranking anytime during the next 6 months, I won't be that ecstatic. I would be really happy Sindhu surpasses what Saina did in her peak....

As of last week, K. Srikanth has become the highest ranked Indian Male coming up higher on the list than Kashyap... Very good & consistent set of results enabled this.....

This week's rankings...

8 Men in Top 50... Good times ahead... :goodluck:

Code: Select all

22 K. Srikanth
24 PARUPALLI Kashyap
27 Ajay JAYARAM
30 R. M. V. Gurusaidutt
34 Anand PAWAR
40 H. S. Prannoy
44 Sourabh VARMA
47 B. Sai Praneeth
On the Womens side, the fight for the top spot is intensifying, but the onus is on Sindhu to defend a slew of points in the next couple of months. If she can match those results from last year or better them, she can get ahead of Saina...

Code: Select all

8 Saina NEHWAL
9 P. V. Sindhu
41 Arundhati PANTAWANE

These are the latest rankings of Indian players in singles top 50 -

Mens singles

•16: K.Srikanth
•19: Parupalli Kashyap
•30: Ajay Jayaram
•33: Sourabh Varma
•40: R.M.V.Gurusaidutt
•41: H.S Prannoy
•44: Sai Praneeth
•45: Anand Pawar

Womens singles

•8: Saina Nehwal
•10: P.V.Sindhu
•48: Arundhanti Pantawane

Srikanth again becomes India no.1 with a career high ranking of 16. We still have 8 players in top 50 in mens but they have all been there for quite some time now & 1 or two need to make a run to the top 10 like Saina & Sindhu on womens side. I think it is somewhat a similar situation to our mens tennis where we cluch of players ranked between 250 and 400 but only Somdev is in top 100.
