P. V. Sindhu thread - Rio Olympics Silver medal winner

Post by jayakris »

How about her? Beating the Olympics champion and world #2 in a scintillating match today, turning the tables and taking her out in the third. The young sensation is becoming the young phenom!!! Wow!

Post away in this thread... This will stay here for several years I am sure!

thanks for the link. did you see the smash from Sindhu when she was leading 19-16 in the 3rd set?!

Tall, lithe and powerful, she is here to stay and is the single biggest threat to chinese domination in women's badminton; definitely a future WR #1 and dare I say 2016 Olympic GOLD medalist! Just stick with Gopi for the next 4 years and then do whatever you want after that!!

[SF] Yanjiao Jiang (CHN) bt P.V. Sindhu (IND) 21-10 14-21 21-19

Very close fight and she is now definitely playing at a top-10 level or perhaps even higher.

Official Badminton Federation report on SIndhu's win....... :D

Sindhu Packs off Olympic Champion
World No. 24 PV Sindhu of India rocked the Li-Ning China Masters today, ousting Olympic champion Li Xuerui in the quarter-finals.

Previous results have hinted this teenage sensation could someday be among badminton’s movers and shakers but hardly would anyone have anticipated a performance of seismic proportions when she took the court against this year’s in-form female player.

The outcome was completely unexpected as Xuerui has been nearly unbeatable since February. In fact, this was only Xuerui’s second loss in the last 39 matches – the other loss, incidentally, was against Sindhu’s senior compatriot Saina Nehwal in the final of the Djarum Indonesia Open. For her efforts, Sindhu will now tackle No. 4 seed Jiang Yanjiao in the semi-finals.

Watched her QF and SF matches and I’m very impressed. She is undoubtedly a great player in the making. She is already up there, able to complete with the best. A year or so should see her in the top 5. Hope she continues to train hard, and keep herself away from injuries. I would say a future world no. 1.

That's good news depleter.... :D

Sindhu's real test starts now: Saina Nehwal
Saina said that for the last few months, there was some intensity in Sindhu’s practice sessions with coach Pullela Gopichand.

“Her long sessions with her coach (Gopichand) has helped her to become a stronger player. Her on-court movements have become very good,’’ she said.

Talking about Friday’s match against Xuerui, Saina said she was very impressed the way Sindhu handled the match. “She showed good strokes, kept her nerves and played better rallies. She did not get overwhelmed by the occasion or by the home crowd,’’ she pointed out.

Mods, can one of you please rename the thread to say "P. V. Sindu thread" deleting the phrase "Young badminton sensation!" -- it was nice for a day or two but we should now revert to the usual format.
