Let me go on record as officially sulking. I get no mention for starting this thread even before that, immediately after I noticed one match and knew that she was the real thing. I should have said that she'd win a medal next time. But I still sulk :damn:
Kidding.

I dared to say what I thought and Sindhu really fulfilled that thought today.!! :) woohoo

Absolutely a stunning performance from her against the World number 1 player Marin. Winning the first set from 16-19 to 21-19. and continuing to fight in the 3rd set - amazing indeed to see such a fighting display from an Indian athlete in a 1 on 1 sport!! :notworthy:

The announcers were constantly mentioning about how Sindhu was only going for a medal (implying that she should be satisfied with a silver) while Marin was going for the Gold. Once the Sindhu won the first set, they changed tune!!

PKB, you are always optimistic. I am sure you are probably sketching out a scenario right now, where India will win two or 3 more Olympic medals ! LOL :)

Jay, of course you deserve all the credit for discovering and starting this thread in the first place for Sindhu!

Just for the record, let me predict that barring injury, she will bring us a Gold next time. This time I won't be caught with prediction delays. Or, has PKB already said that? ..... Damn, I guess he must have, the incorrigible devil of an optimist he is.

But Sindhu!!! Great show, girl!!! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Akane Yamaguchi will win the gold in Tokyo. I'll take a medal each from Sindhu and Srikanth along with QF appearances in doubles.

talented but shorter and heavier compared to rest of her competitors... that could prove to be a limiting factor.

I think the true test should be the accuracy of the predictions. How many of your predictions come through/How many predictions you made. There are issues with this metric, but, for the sake of simplicity, that should suffice. If someone makes a lot of predictions of medals-won/rankings-achieved left and right and then some of them comes through, that is not as impressive as someone who makes few predictions but a lot of them are correct.

Wow, I m speechless. :damn:

Pullela Gopichand is good, but we will find a better coach for PV Sindhu: Telangana deputy CM Mohammed Mahmood Ali
"The entire country is proud of her. No player could ever reach that level. Thus we are very happy that our daughter from Telangana has earned a name across the world. In future, we will find a better coach for Sindhu. Her current coach is also very good, but we will find a coach for her so that she wins a Gold medal next time," he told the channel.

Agreed. and for the record it is 0.8 / 1 = 80% :) !! I am claiming the silver medal to be as charming and as valuable as 80% of Gold!!

Rather than replacing Gopichand, why not try to augment his coaching with better support staff, including some specialists sport psychology, software for better analyses, etc. There is always room for improvement and it need not come by replacing someone!! Obviously a politician jumping on the bandwagon wouldn't know any better....
