No news about Saina Nehwal anywhere. Neither Indian Badminton Association guys are replying to my mails.

Anyways got hold of an Indonesian Guy from another forum and made him read Jawa Pos newspaper :) . They published quarterfinal results and Saina wasn't there in the list. So I guess she lost in the earlier rounds :( . Come one Saina, make some noise in the next one.

So she is onto Djarum Indonesia open Badminton Championships which starts from Monday. :goodluck: Saina.

Thanks Sandeep for keeping this thread alive and going to great lengths to find the news about Saina. I am happy that Saina is playing abroad and getting some valuable experience, and I hope she is accompanied by a coach to help her.

Saina Nehwal Thread (Singapore Open)

Saina Nehwal is playing qualifiers of Indonesian open at the moment. It is a 6 star tournament and a very prestigious one. Lot of good players come there. I am not expecting any big upsets over there but I am sure it will be a great experience. Her first round opponent is : -

She is going to face Nova Resti Amalia from Indonesia. I think Sania will be able to win this. If she can get through this her first round opponent would be Mori Kaori  from Japan . She is world No.11 and has performed very very well this year. Reached quarterfinals of most of the top class tournaments. This would be a very very very tough match. Hopefully Saina will not get blown away and puts up a tough fight.

Go Saina :goodluck:

Got this news from a net search.
It seems that Saina won her qualifying match and emtered the main draw.
How ever in the First round she lost to the world no.11 - Mori Kaori from Japan in 3 sets. Its good to see that she managed to take a set off the world no: 11.

Kaori Mori (5) (JPN) d Saina Nehwal (Q) (IND) 11/2, 5/11, 11/3

Places to go, Saina... :goodluck: for the future tournaments.

Saina is going to face Aparna popat in the Asian satellite finals. Go Saina. Get Aparna this time :goodluck:

Saina bt Trupti 3-11, 11-3, 11-6 .

Saina is unseeded in this tournamet and this makes her achievement all the more creditable as she had to play all tough matches against seeds to reach this stage :bounce:

SSSSuuperb performance from Saina. No one would have expected this!! She beat 8 time national champion Aparna Popat 11-8, 11-6

Aparna didn't loose to an Indian since 2002! And Saina finally broke the streak. What an achievement. Man, I am elated.

The ease with which she won is what is striking. Awesome. Go Saina. Saina has won the title in what is her third international appearance. GO future world No.1 and olympic gold medalist :)

According to Hindu: -

The women's title in only her third international appearance in the senior ranks was the reward for Saina, who holds the promise to take over the mantle from Aparna for years to come. If Saina's display on Sunday was any indication, the process of the change of guard has commenced.

And here is what Saina has to say: -

Aparna is a great player and I grew up watching her. For me, beating Aparna is almost unbelievable. Today, the pressure was on Aparna and I played freely. I know I played well. But I still have to improve my speed and stamina in order to move to a higher level
