Rankings of Chinese players are not reliable. I am sure he is a lot better than that.

Yes, this Chinese proved too for Prannoy winning 21-16 21-15. Still, good to see a run to the SF by Prannoy for this level tournament after long time.

Last couple of weeks, our players have been playing in Malaysia at Super 750 tournament last week and super 500 tournament this week. Our top 2 singles players, Laskhya and Srikanth are not playing here and Satwik-Chirag only played last week.

Last week, Prannoy and Sindhu reached QF at mens and womens singles respectively. Sindhu lost to her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying in 3 games and Prannoy lost in straight games against Indonesian Joanathan Christie.

This week, again Sindhu and Prannoy reached QF. Sindhu again lost to Tai in 3 games but Prannoy beat 14th ranked Kento Tsumeyama to reach SF stage. In the second round Prannoy ( now ranked 19) beat 16th ranked Wang from Taiwan. So, he has beaten 2 higher ranked players here so far.

Prannoy loses in SF to higher ranked HK player.

He has very good strokes but appears a little slow for the absolute top level. Given that he is 29, this may be as good as he’s going to get.

Yes, Saina's first top 10 win today since January 2020 against Chinese world #9 He Bing Jiao. Saina won 18-21 21-12 21-18 in Singapore Open. She joined Sindhu in womens singles QF. Sindhu had to struggle though and just came thru 21-18 in third game against Vietnam's Thuy Linh Nhuyen.

In mens singles, Prannoy continues his consistent run and beats 4th ranked Taiwanse Tien Chen Chou for the second straight week. Srikanth also played here but lost against young Mithun Majunath in first run who in turn lost in a close match in second round.

And our 40th ranked mens doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun upset 12th ranked Malaysian pair 21-18 in third games to reach QF.

7th ranked Sindhu against 19th ranked Chinese Jan Yuei, 24th ranked Saina against 30th ranked Japanese Aya Ohori in QF tomorrow.

19th ranked Prannoy against 41st ranked Japanese Naraoka in mens singles QF and Dhruv-Arjun against second seeded Indonesian pair in mens doubles QF.

A major badminton championship. Three courts. Three matches. All QF level matches. All featuring atleast one Indian. Badminton as sports has surged ahead than most other sports.

Yes, but as of today all 3 of them lost in close matches. Praanoy lost 18-21 in third game against young Japnese Naraoka. Saina lost 20-22 in third game against Aya Ohori while Dhruv- Arjun put up a terrific fight against 3rd ranked Indonesians but lost 17-21 in third game.

All 3 close losses but in fourth close match Sindhu won 21-19 in third game against Chinese Jan Yuei.

Sindhu will play 38th ranked Japanese Saena Kawakami in SF.

And Sindhu is thru to the final of Singapore open BWF Super 500 with a 21-15 21-7 win over Japanese Kawakami .

She will up against 11th ranked Chinese Zhi Yi Wang. Chinese are usually better than their ranking. So, it will be tough and even match for Sindhu.

And Sindhu beats Chinese Zhi Yi Wang 21-9 11-21 21-15 to win Singapore Open, her first super 500 title of the year and her third title this year.

She has been good form this year. Now only needs to start beating Tai, her nemesis.

We have always wondered why in Badminton, there are mostly players who turn to being doubles specialists at a very early age and there are very few players ( almost none at top level) who play both singles and doubles. This is a nice article from former doubles specialist Shlok Ramchandran explaining this-
