Syed Modi starts tomorrow - last chance saloon for a lot of Indian players to at least achieve something this season.

MS - 3 of the top 4 seeds are Indians after all the withdrawals
WS - everyone has withdrawn so no Sindhu, Saina, HBJ, Michelle Li. Only top players left are Marin and An Se Young.
MD - reasonably good field and Satwik/Chirag are #2 seeds
WD - very few seeds left but Ashwini/Sikki will need to play the #4 seeds in the quarters.
XD - lots of withdrawals but Satwik/Ashwini have the #1 seeds in round 2

Has Saina more or less given up on her career? I thought playing these lower level events would have given her some easy points.

I think Saina is injured. So, she has pulled out of Premier Badminton league too. She wants to take a break now and concentrate on early year tournaments next year to try to qualify for Tokyo.

Btw, bad result in mens doubles at Sayed Modi today as Satwik-Chirag lost in first round against a Chinese pair. After a few great results, last couple of weeks have been bad for them. Best results today came for us in mens singles where 9 Indians are there in last 16. Srikanth-Kashyap meet each other, Saurabh Verma up against Alap Mishra. So, 2 guranteed spots in QF. Prannoy against 8th seed Wang and Lakshya against 7th seed Son Wan Ho. Sai Praneeth against 3 times junior world champion Thai Viditsarn. Ajay Jayaram and Siril Verma against higher ranked foreign opponents.

None of those playing foreign players managed to win. Even Sai Praneeth lost to young Thai world junior champion.

Srikanth beat Kashyap in 3 close games. So, Srikanth ansd Saurabh Verma are the only Indians in QF of mens singles. Srikanth plays the Korean Son Wan Ho against whom he has a 4-6 record. So, in current form I do not favour him. Saurabh plays Thai Viditsarn.

In womens singles, Rituparna Das and Shruti Mundada play each other in QF.

And thus ends what has been probably our worst 7-8 months in badminton for a long time. No changes or accountability from anyone involved.

Sindhu's win at the world championships was an outlier though obviously I would take that in 2020.

7-8 months is not a long time. Just because things do not work does not mean that things need to be changed. Sometimes the best time for accountability is after a win. We do need more coaching options and better coaches in India though.
