ALLIANZ JUNIOR FOOTBALL CAMP '09 MUNICH

Post by Dennis »

09.09.2009 : Jaideep Gandhi, Mumbai :

Global insurance, asset management and banking giants Allianz launched their inaugural Junior Football Camp '09 at Munich. The five day camp from 26th-30th August was attended by 37 participants (27 boys & 5 girls) from countries as varied as Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Korea, Netherlands, Russia, UK and Germany. This was a camp which Steadfast Sports & Adventure Academy would have loved to be part of.

Allianz has supported sport at national and international levels for many years enabling thousands to enjoy unforgettable global events. The sponsorship of the state of art Allianz Arena, home to Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich is an outstanding example of this. The company has been based in Munich for the last 50 years. The partnership between the Allianz Arena GmbH, the two Munich clubs - FC Bayern Munich und TSV 1860 Munich, the city of Munich and the Allianz has made first class sport possible in the most modern and fantastic stadium, that is the Allianz Arena.

Allianz decided to spread its wings by conducting this football camp and give exposure to deserving teens in world class environment. For many participants it was their first time out of their respective countries. And it was a dream come true for all of them, experiencing state of art facilities at the 51, Sabener strasse, club Bayern's HQ and the Allianz arena.

The kids were well and truly like Alice in wonderland. For the five days in Munich, the camp participants not only stayed in the same hotel as Bayern team does before their home games but also shared the same floor. They rubbed shoulder with the likes of Ribery, Robben, Mario Gomez, Coach Van Haal and other stars of the Bayern galaxy. They had two 2 hours training sessions a day with official Bayern coaches, besides a 3 hour tournament comprising of mixed teams of different nationalities.
The participants got opportunities to go behind the scenes at the clubhouse as well as the Allianz arena witnessing the state of art performance center, gymnasium and player’s dressing rooms and stepping onto the hallowed turf of this astounding stadium. They even left behind personal messages to their favorite players. They were also taken on a Munich city tour where they visited the Nymphenburg palace, Marienplatz, Olympic park, the top of the TV tower and finally had a traditional dinner at the legendary bier gardens. The highlight of this camp for the participants was to watch Bayern take on defending Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg at the Allianz arena. It turned out to be a spectacular game which Bayern went on to blank the wolves 3-0 courtesy of a Robben brace. The final icing on the cake was the exclusive photo and autograph session with the entire Bayern team.

Although many of the children didn’t speak English and at times there was a communication barrier they overcame all these as they all understood the universal language of football. It was the love and zeal for this passionate game which brought them down to Munich and they were not disappointed. This was probably a once in a life time opportunity thanks to the sponsors of this camp. By the time the Munich sojourn was over the children were very emotional as they collectively agreed that "they had a time of their lives!!!” And no one would disagree with this statement. Let’s hope that next year children from India also benefit from this truly phenomenon international football experience.
