The brilliance of BCCI! They sacked a board of selectors led by Chetan Sharma and then chose a board led by Chetan Sharma!!! Okay, so if you have no confidence on the set of selectors why select their chair again? And, if the others were not up to the mark, then maybe retain the chair of the board and fire the others and refill them. Crazy!

How can Roger Binny remove his mate :D ? Nepotism ruling BCCI. Chetan Sharma has been making horrible selection in the name of making two teams.

England have been the fastest batting team with a SR of 99, India coming in at #2 at 94, followed by South Africa at 90. England averages 33 while we average 36, South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan average 34. This seems to suggest that we are taking a bit less risk than the English are.

I possibly have not seen a start of a career like Harry Brooks'. Phenomenal stuff. Quite Bradmanesque.

IPL is a glorified gambling den..
Harry's rise is absolutely meteoric and he is the next big name in Cricket.

Actually, in the after-IPL era, we have gotten better. To be objective. I believe we regularly are in the semi-finals and are reasonably confident that we can be there. We have a winning record against all countries. And, we have been the #1 team or close to it consistently. The IPL is not the cause of this, of course. As it is not for producing the best.

The NBA, etc. are the best leagues in the world because they are not protectionist leagues. In the IPL, upper mediocre players from India make a lot of money and some of them lose interest in working so hard. If it was not protectionist and any player from any country would have been allowed. And, our players would have been allowed to play in other leagues around the world freely except for injury/health management, we would have more battle-tested players.

And, to be honest, I would rather have a #1 team instead of an individual phenom. We had our individual phenoms in SRT, VK, etc. But, that did not translate to a consistently winning team.

Terrific win by NZ who won by 1 run, that's why I prefer Test Cricket over T20 where cricketing fundamentals on display in its true glory.
Like SKY considered a Bradman type of T20 but yet to make his Test debut.

Alternate universe sir. SY already made his debut and failed in one innings. But, more interestingly, he is also struggling in ODIs. Maybe he will figure it out soon.

This is what I wrote in response to PKB's FB post:

Now, how is that stupid first innings declaration looking? It had absolutely no sense. There were 42 overs left. They did take 7 wickets that night but they would possibly have gotten 7 for 130 odd in the evening and using the morning help. A few more runs would have helped. Also, stupid was enforcing the follow-on. There was enough time left and they have a great bowling unit and a good batting unit. Why not let NZ chase? Makes no sense.

Bazball is good - parts of it. Play hard, score fast when the conditions are good, declare with some time left and let the opponent chase around 3 an over is all fine. But, stupidity like the declaration with 42 overs left in the game's play and the follow-on were just that. Hubris! Gets its deserved comeuppance.

Kudos to Williamson.

In essence, if you work out the probabilities, there is a case for more aggressive declarations in the 4th innings. That is the right method if you want to avoid defeat at all costs. But, if your utility model is say a win is 2 points, a draw is 1 point, and a loss is 0 points, then if you want to maximize your returns, you need to declare much earlier than teams used to do. That is give about the number of overs x 3-3.3 runs/over and declare. Not much more than that. The reason is that this will encourage teams to go for it and if they are trying to play shots you will get more wickets. Also, rarely have teams chased over 3.3 runs/over in the last innings for totals over 250. So, if you declare earlier at say 300-350 lead and go for it, then you are more likely to get more points than if you go for 400 or so knowing the wicket is flat or good-ish wicket. Of course, the total should vary based on the match, but generally earlier declarations should be done. More risk, more reward.

I also agree with their batsmen not named Root hitting out because they do not have good defence and that is the way to make runs. Rahul should note as perhaps should Gill. Kohli knows what to do when and should just do it or retire.

But declaring with 42 overs left in the day with lots of time left in the game? Totally stupid. I can find no reason. And, why would the wicket help them more in the middle of the day and not the next morning? Note also NZ actually bowled only about 3.5 sessions because one session was washed out and not like they were tired fielding for two days. Anyway, good they lost.

All sportsmen have injuries. That by itself means nothing. Are we getting injured more? Is there anything that can be done better? Those are the big questions. The NCA is there and will be there and is doing a decent job (compared to it not being there). It cannot do magic. The press is a bunch of idiots. They just point to injuries and say "See". There is nothing to see. Only very few actually are not lazy idiots and do the analysis to show anything meaningful, i.e., the number and severity of injuries are more or recovery is less, etc. We should not get hyper over the nonsense reporting mostly in the press.

Yes Chetan Sharma is a big idiot where he claimed a player with injury loved to play with injection then going back to rehab and attain full fitness in NCA. Can BCCI impose a ban on players who isnt available throughout the season and surprisingly becomes full fit & ready to go in IPL ? Selectors idiots, Press idiots only BCCI & team management are good, and whatever reason they gives is 100% fair & true

Idiot is someone who says something without evidence. Chetan Sharma highlighted a problem. Chetan never said the NCA was at fault. The players are trying to game systems. The NCA is not involved in creating these systems. Your original post attacked the NCA without any evidence. A few players are injured. They will always be injured. That does not mean anything. If your claim is that players who have gamed the system should not be believed in the future. Absolutely! If a player does not play international cricket but just wants to play IPL, let them do that. What is the problem? Everyone is free to choose what they want to do and when they want to work. The BCCI should not ban them but just ignore them for team selection. The IPL will soon not want these players because you will have no idea if they are fit or match fit. Nobody is just playing IPL and no domestics. Playing domestics and internationals actually get people IPL gigs. We don't really have people who are playing T20 leagues around the world. Even if there are, let them be and move on.People making random claims are idiots. What is the evidence that the NCA has not given good coaching or fitness advice to players who are unfit? What is the evidence of negligence in their treatment, all of which is not NCA's prerogative anyway? Without that if someone claims, NCA is to blame that is nonsense. Any claims without careful reasoning is just nonsense and a lot of it is in today's press and social media.
