Re: New Zealand A in India 2022
We have typically followed India ‘A’ series in this thread

i think moderators were very deliberate about starting new topic threads for cricket. We try to reuse topic threads as much as possible. I would like others chime in on this topic.

Re: New Zealand A in India 2022
Ruturaj Gaikward missed full Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season, selection in 4 day games on what basis ? Tilak Verma selection based on IPL in four dayers, have played only 4 FC. How Yash Dubey & Subham Sharma misses out with 76+ average in previous ranji season ? No chance to Mulani, picked 45 wickets in 6 games in this season

This is the same thing going on. Stupidity. We keep choosing Pant for T20Is based on his stellar test and maybe average ODI performances. We choose Avesh, Tripathi, and Samson for ODIs based on IPL. Basically, the selectors are throwing out all domestic performances. I am not so sure that IPL is a better predictor of test success than Ranjis, notwithstanding all its faults.

No intention from selectors to groom a pace bowling allrounder. Test cricket performances are getting suffered because of promoting IPL performers who are hardly found in four day performance sheet.

Re: New Zealand A in India 2022
Strange selection. We are playing 9 away tests in next WTC Cycle ( 2023-25 ) and there is no sign of grooming any pace bowling allrounders. Except Ruturaj & Tilak Verma, all are fair selection. Tilak Verma so lucky just with 4 FC matches doing nothing great is getting call for India A and playing the game

Bengal born and played, Mukesh Kumar in the spotlight after taking three wickets on day 1 of the A-team test. He is 28 but has been really good for Bengal after starting to play seriously at the age 21. He was mal-nourished before that. So, his improvement is not due to spinach, really. Hope he is given some good number of chances. He is a phenomenal story.

Re: New Zealand A in India 2022
Agree that we should be identifying and grooming allrounders. Only Tilak Varma is a part allrounder, and I actually like his selection, not just because he can bowl somewhat, but also because he is quite young and has shown the capability to handle pressure and face top bowlers in the IPL. So inspite of his small FC sample size, I think he has shown enough potential to be given chances at least at this level.
Also we seem to have gone into this match with 1 bowler short, I don't think we needed so many batsmen. Seems like the pitch does not provide any assistance to spinners, but still either of R Chahar or Saurabh Kumar should have been selected in place of Gaikwad or Panchal. I don't think there is any point in giving Panchal more chances at this level, he hasn't done anything of note in umpteen A tours, and he is already on the wrong side of 30.

How good is this Arzan Nagwaswalla ? Some of the youtube clips shows he has great capability of bringing the ball in to the RHBs. 21 FC with 81 wickets seems satisfactory

Re: New Zealand A in India 2022
Axar Patel replaces injured Ravindra Jadeja. Replacement made according to role, it would have been better if they had picked Deepak Chahar as Ravi Ashwin is still in their scheme of things for T20 WC, he deserved few games before getting thrown out or get picked without performing

Wrong thread. Maybe a good moderator will move this to the Asia Cup thread.
