Re: India in West Indies 2022
I fully agree that people should be dropped and it is not up to them to retire. Nobody is a certainty and have to perform. We should certainly not play them but use a team of youngsters. But, the question I was implicitly answering was that if there is a WC, whom would I pick on performance only not considering experience. Kohli in the last two years has scored at 34.07@83.68. Worthy of being dropped. He can go to the A-team and prove his worth and then come back in. Or take the domestics by fire.
Rohit on the other hand has scored at about 50 at a SR of 98 in his last 15 matches. Very good although in the last 9 he has dropped a tad.
Rahul in the last 2 years (10 matches) has 44@94. Quite good.
Dhawan 47@84.
So, we can go: Dhawan, Prithvi, Rohit, Iyer, Rahul, Hooda, Hardik
assuming Iyer and Hooda can keep performing. We need a Sehwag-type batsman at the top. Pant comes in with the first injury or if Hooda proves to be a flake.
But, of course, due to his test relative failures, Prithvi has been dumped from the formats he should be good at.

I thought Tendulkar timed his white ball retirement well.He dragged on in tests and ruined his record.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
So, far we have won just one match against England when top order didnt fired. Since retirement of MSD, middle order have been getting exposed in overseas odi series. In recent tour of SA fragile middle order was exposed in three back to back games.Jobs are getting done against weak opposition but needs to be done more against top side

Yes, after his odi retirement he had an average of 23+ in 2012 and 34+ in 2013 in test matches

I hope Dhawan and Gill are rested and we play Gaekwad and Ishan at the top of the order. And, PK is given some more chances. Or is Avesh a better bat?

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Well, no such luck. At least PK is back. But, our openers have started horribly slowly. Both Dhawan and Gill are at -9 balls, i.e., have faced 9 balls more than runs scored. This is at the score of 55-0. Hope they accelerate soon. Leaving it for miraculous heroics by the lower order is not going to work always. 115-1 in 24. Not much acceleration. Dhawan got out contributing -16 and Gill is going at the same rate. Is the pitch/conditions that difficult? We need a 325 to be safe and at this rate, it will not happen.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
So this series moves Gill ahead of Suryakanth and the rest of the next gen in ODIs. Gill has always done very well in A-team tours and this West Indies is worse than our A-team. Not to take away things from Gill. He still needed to perform and he did. So, he should be next in line overtaking SAY etc. So, now the numbers look as follows:
Gill 50.8@94, Shreyas 42.6@92.5, Samson 39@96.7, Hooda 38.3@92, SAY 34@98.8, Pant 36.5@108.8, Hardik 33.8@116, Jadeja 32.6@87, and if we throw in Prithvi 31.5@114.
Retaining Dhawan, Rohit and Rahul, plus Hardik as the allrounder (or Jadeja in India), we have:
Dhawan, Rohit, Gill, Rahul, Shreyas, Hooda, Hardik. Hooda gets in because of his bowling. Backups Pant and Jadeja. In reality, the team selectors will not drop Kohli. So, Hooda, Gill make space for Kohli and Jadeja. Shreyas will make space for Pant. But, that will be somewhat regressive. Let the young kids play themselves out as SAY seems to be doing in ODIs or play themselves in as Gill did over weak opposition.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Zimbabwe & West Indies tours performance are meaningless.Upcomming Asia Cup will be a big test.West Indies cricket now lacks venom. Ireland Cricket has got more competative attitude then West Indies. Virat missed a big opportunity.

But have we got one player who we can confidently say has the ability to replace Virat. A failing Virat is better because I still hope he will recover. Sky/shreyas and others have not materialized the opportunity.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Finally, West Indies has brought in 2 left arm pacers in form of
McCoy and Dominic Drakes. McCoy is experienced, Drakes new one, don't know enough, but to trouble India you have to follow other team's vision and include left arm pacers.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Our Skipper seems very much weak in selection of his fellow Mumbaikar.SKY in Odis and Shreyas 326 runs in last 10 T20Is has been given enough chance now. Deepak Hooda can't warm in the bench despite performing and giving the team two services.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
It does not matter if you bring in so so left-arm seamers. Our right-handed batsmen are susceptible to top-notch left-arm seamers but so are they to top-notch right-arm seamers. WI does not have great bowlers it seems.
It is a shame that Pant and Jadeja are being played here and Hooda has to sit out. Not saying that Hooda eventually will result in being better than these two but I am saying that against weak opposition, we should have given Hooda a shot to see what he can do.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Hooda has passed both weak & quality opponent test, not playing him in T20Is instead of Iyer is harsh treatment. S Iyer had scored runs as expected because of weak West Indies bowling. The more he gets picked instead of in form Hooda more will legend like Cheeka will dig at the team management.

Re: India in West Indies 2022
Lost the match but great to see Rohit giving Avesh to defend 10 runs in 6 balls instead of Bhuvi. He also done such things with MI gave a stage to youngsters. This type of decisions against low ranked side is required for grooming new talents. Umran & Avesh has got skills but they arent fast learners they should be given more time to understand the game and develop themselves.
