Only Sundar batting like a modern white ball batsman. Will get dropped for no reason again.

Sundar had too many injuries dating back to 2021 england series ( broke his finger in a warm up game against england).

After that, his injuries included hamstring injury, split webbing, shoulder injury. Every time he was on verge of comeback,he had been injured .

Chahal as a wrist spinner is very mediocre and cannot bat as well. Unfortunately we don’t have a wrist spinner of quality.

Team management is now doing politics with Samson. He can't sit out for that full time shorter format failure Pant inspite of giving performances. Excuse of combination should be stopped. Proper LHB who is performing in domestic like Sai Sudarshan or Tilak Verma should be brought into the team.Backing failure Pant will now turn into a revolt.

Wasim Jaffer thus tweeted in reference to Samson being dropped due to lack of all rounders and part-time bowlers:

The right thing would be to drop Dhawan and play Sanju. Of course, we lost the first ODI because we choose some of our crappiest bowlers to represent the country.

Arshdeep: no wickets, Runs/over: 8.32
Malik: 33@6.6
Shardul: 34.1@6.44
DLC: 24.66@6.01

DLC is a wicket-taker and deserves a place with his batting, but this pace-attack shows the lack of any quality bowlers. Why are we so bad?

Chhahal is fine in ODIs, I presume but he can be taken to task on small grounds and he has been figured out. Washi with his bat and bowling should be encourged. We need allrounders.

Pant is not as lousy in ODIs as he is in T20Is.

Why is SKY playing in these matches? Wouldn’t Samson be the ideal replacement for him? Not sure why Dhawan is in the team, let alone being the captain. We just reward people for seniority. Like Ashwin playing the T20 World Cup as a reward for not playing the WTC (or something like that).

SAY should be dropped. He has been poor in ODIs. But, Dhawn is worse.

Small sample bias for SKY in ODIs.

Indian fans need to get a little bit less sentimental. Mukherjee babu above can't differentiate ODIs and T20s. Pant is actually very good in ODIs and has been very consistent for the past couple of years.

As we have discussed previously, Dhawan is the main issue in this ODI team but simple-minded Indian media and fans get manipulated into ignoring it. And then he has the gall to send Iyer to the media to say that the top order should not be hitting out in the PP.

I am surprised that you are still able to follow cricket despite how much destruction the Kohli/Rohit era has caused.

Yes, small but not very small. He has had 11 completed innings. Okay, give him 4 more. Given the number of people we have who are promising candidates, we need to be fair to people.

Pant has been acceptable as a wicket-keeper batsman. Very borderline if we want to play him as a pure bat.

We need people who can average 40 at over 90. For #7, may be 35 at 100 is okay. Which is where SAY is. And, he cannot bowl. So, he does not fit in for a #7 position. Pant maybe okay there. We need to work on Sundar as an allrounder.

Last 2 years pant is scoring at an average of 48 with strike rate of 120 which is pretty good.

That is wrong. His SR is about 110 or 111 if you round up. His average is indeed 48, which is great, especially at that run rate. However, it is over only 10 dismissals. Small sample size as with SAY. Last 3 years, he has 14 dismissals at 45 at a SR of 112, which is also pretty good. I do not have qualms about Pant but I think that he has done well over a small sample size skewed by the 120* innings in England. However, he played that great innings and deserves the kudos.

SAY on the other hand has been so so. Needs to do better. Or kicked out.

They are playing lesser number of ODIs and also due to rotation, the sample size is going to be small. There is no point worrying about what the form was beyond a reasonable period lets say 2 years.
People will have to perform with these small sample size only.
The strike rate is between 114 to 115 in last 2 years. 481 runs in 421 balls unless I got the balls wrong.

No matter with batting in Indian Condition. Its certain Pant & SKY both will be there in 2023 WC. But the question is which bowlers will help to defend 300+ in dew situation, under lights? Wankhede, Eden Garden's, Chinnaswamy is a graveyard for the medium pacers in dew. Bumrah, Chahar, Sundar fully doubtfull in fitness. ODI bowling looking clueless. Shami will defintely be there along with Siraj. Bhuvi will have zero chance of doing well with that pace. Arshdeep /Dayal with Umran & Kuldeep Sen need to be developed as ODI bowlers. Shewag, Yuvi, Raina, Yousuf bowled important overs that helped Dhoni to manage Zaheer, Munaf, Nehra/Sreesanth in that 2011WC.No one is there in present indian team to do the job of those who were more then a good part timers. Team needs to play Jadeja /Sundar/Shahbaz at 6th and only one among SKY & Shreyas to get 6 bowling options in defending 300+. Since, Dhawan's place is in question it will be good to develop Hooda or Tilak Verma as opener, as they can bowl few overs.

The worst type of selection is to pencil juniors in for sure even though they have not proved themselves. Or seniors despite their being obviously downhill. This is what got us Pant and DK in the T20Is. It is another matter that the oldies were the worst top-order in the tournament. I would rather that SAY and Pant have to prove and continue to prove themselves because they do not have a body of work. SAY does not and Pant barely has done well in about 14 innings, not too long a record. Very rarely have teams won with more than one iffy, new bat in the top 7. We can play SAY and Pant but especially if SAY is not experienced enough, he will mess things up.

Our bowling is always crap. Write them off. Pack the team with batters up and down and score 350 every match. That is the only way we can win consistently. Sounds like a ridiculous strategy but I have zero faith in our bowlers and we have not developed any ODI bowler apart from Bumrah and Shami.

For our winning team under Dhoni, just look at how many matches each player had played before they became world beaters.

Having said that we need to dump Dhawan pronto.

Regarding our batters not bowling, I saw that SKY has 25+ wickets in FC which means that he either used to bowl or still bowls occasionally in first class cricket. So he can develop that to be a part timer in ODIs. Why he does not do that? Not sure if others also bowl in domestics.
