But why? Is it really needed? Why not play test matches instead?

Mate, as per current WTC 2021-23 cycle, NZ had away test series schedule against India which was concluded recently after T20 WC 2021. May be India will tour NZ for test matches in next WTC cycle

Is everyone bound to play only the required matches and no more or no less? Sorry, I don’t know. Perhaps the limited overs is also per some calendar, which would make sense. Thanks for clarifying, matey.

We should use these matches to give the youngsters chances. But, I suppose logistically and costwise it may be easier to play the team down under and not send a completely new team, etc. However, at least some oldies should be called back and the people who have not gotten a fair, full run be given that and flown in.

Also, the reason is that the Indian team is a cash cow. Often, the Indian team tours are the ones that make money for the boards that are used throughout the year by them to support their cricket. We should use this leverage to ask them to pay for our players staying there, etc. or more players visiting, or maybe pay for our A-team too to go concurrently. Of course, we cannot eat away their whole profit but we should negotiate for the betterment of our players. I think the BCCI does not do this as well. They have perfect reciprocity wrt payments but if we are making them money and they are not that irreplacable, it should not be perfectly reciprocal. We have a more valuable (entertainment) product.

Good to see Kuldeep Sen & Umran getting reward for domestic performances and NZ A games. Raj Bawa should have been there in one of the squad as a back up of Pandya

We opened with two of our proven failures and had an awful opening partnership. New players that are not really new. These guys have shown us that they cannot bat (at least as of now). Same old crappy selection = same old crappy execution. Whatever you say about Iyer he is not wasting balls. Hit out or get out. At least he has the right attitude. We should not choose people without the hit out or get out attitude.

Actually, prasen we need fresh thinking and this team selection clearly shows that the team mgmt does not get it.

I am also worried about the knock on effect this is going to have on Pant’s test career. He look totally lost and not clear of his role. He should have been dropped for this series and given time off. This constant shuffling of people is grating on nerves.

I think only one of KL Rahul or Kohli should be in the T20 team( i did not mention Rohit, because he should be dropped from T20). Why is Bhuvi not rested. How about Deepak chahar? Why is he not being given opportunity. Hooda and Washington sundar, when u have a non striker who is playing at a different level, just rotate strike. They need to be dropped from the team for such a stupid mistake.

Only bowler of international quality he has faced is Jayant yadav, who had a decent Er of 4 in that match

He has 1782 runs in list A with average of 45. He has scored close to 800 runs in 6 innings this season. Assuming that thr stats reflect the current tournament, His average before this tournament would be around 1000 runs in 35 innings with an average of less than 30.

May be he has re-invented himself, but unlikely that he is better than any of three listed above.

India at 54-0 after 14 overs.

How much more torture should we face from this pathetic top order that has cost us for 10 years in a row?

We might still bilaterals with this kind of batting, but never going to win any major tournaments.
